Book Synopsis Neuro-Education and Neuro-Rehabilitation by : Eduardo Martínez-Montes

Download or read book Neuro-Education and Neuro-Rehabilitation written by Eduardo Martínez-Montes. This book was released on 2016-11-04. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade, important discoveries have been made in cognitive neuroscience regarding brain plasticity and learning such as the mirror neurons system and the anatomo-functional organization of perceptual, cognitive and motor abilities.... Time has come to consider the societal impact of these findings. The aim of this Research Topic of Frontiers in Psychology is to concentrate on two domains: neuro-education and neuro-rehabilitation. At the interface between neuroscience, psychology and education, neuro-education is a new inter-disciplinary emerging field that aims at developing new education programs based on results from cognitive neuroscience and psychology. For instance, brain-based learning methods are flourishing but few have been rigorously tested using well-controlled procedures. Authors of this Research Topic will present their latest findings in this domain using rigorously controlled experiments. Neuro-rehabilitation aims at developing new rehabilitation methods for children and adults with learning disorders. Neuro-rehabilitation programs can be based upon a relatively low number of patients and controls or on large clinical trials to test for the efficiency of new treatments. These projects may also aim at testing the efficiency of video-games and of new methods such as Trans Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for therapeutic interventions in children or adolescents with learning disabilities. This Research Topic will bring together neuroscientists interested in brain plasticity and the effects of training, psychologists working with adults as well as with normally developing children and children with learning disabilities as well as education researchers directly confronted with the efficiency of education programs. The goal for each author is to describe the state of the art in his/her specific research domain and to illustrate how her/his research findings can impact education in the classroom or rehabilitation of children and adolescents with learning disorders.

Book Synopsis The Social Neuroscience of Education: Optimizing Attachment and Learning in the Classroom (The Norton Series on the Social Neuroscience of Education) by : Louis Cozolino

Download or read book The Social Neuroscience of Education: Optimizing Attachment and Learning in the Classroom (The Norton Series on the Social Neuroscience of Education) written by Louis Cozolino. This book was released on 2013-01-07. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creating a healthy, social classroom environment. This book explains how the brain, as a social organism, learns best throughout the lifespan, from our early schooling through late life. Positioning the brain as distinctly social, Louis Cozolino helps teachers make connections to neurobiological principles, with the goal of creating classrooms that nurture healthy attachment patterns and resilient psyches. Cozolino investigates what good teachers do to stimulate minds and brains to learn, especially when they succeed with difficult or “unteachable” students. He explores classroom teaching from the perspectives of social neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology, showing how we can use the findings from these fields to maximize learning and stimulate the brain to grow. The book will have relevance to anyone concerned with twenty-first century learners and the social and emotional development of children.

Book Synopsis The Neuroeducation Toolbox by : Raisse Miller

Download or read book The Neuroeducation Toolbox written by Raisse Miller. This book was released on 2018-12-31. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combining scientific research with insightful literature, The Neuroeducation Toolbox: Practical Translations of Neuroscience in Counseling and Psychotherapy provides students and clinicians with a set of tools for integrating neuroscience into clinical practice. The text emphasizes the application of neuroeducation and highlights how this powerful intervention can reduce client stress, improve outcomes, and increase levels of collaboration between counselors and their clients. Opening chapters demonstrate the myriad uses of neuroeducation in practice and explain how to facilitate the neuroeducation process. Readers explore key principles of brain development, learn about brain anatomy and physiology, and develop understanding of the autonomic nervous system. The embodied brain, memory systems, and the social emotional nature of the brain are addressed. The book closes with discussions of the technical applications of neuroscience and the future of neuroeducation. Each chapter features diverse and thought-provoking literature on neuroscience and creative neuroeducation activities written by counselors, psychotherapists, and scholars in the field. Ethical and multicultural considerations are also highlighted in each activity chapter. The Neuroeducation Toolbox is an ideal resource for courses in counseling and psychotherapy, especially those that emphasize neuroscience research and neuroeducation. Practicing clinicians will also find the text a valuable addition to their libraries. Raissa Miller is a Licensed Professional Counselor and holds a Ph.D. in counseling from the University of North Texas. She is an assistant professor of counselor education and coordinator of the Addiction Counseling Cognate at Boise State University. Dr. Miller specializes in applying principles of neurobiology within counseling to address a wide range of developmental and clinical concerns. Eric T. Beeson is a Licensed Professional Counselor and holds a Ph.D. in counselor education from Ohio University. He is a core faculty member of The Family Institute at Northwestern University.
