Book Synopsis The Spatial and Temporal Dynamics of Commuting by : Jiawen Yang (Ph. D.)

Download or read book The Spatial and Temporal Dynamics of Commuting written by Jiawen Yang (Ph. D.). This book was released on 2005. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Cont.) Results indicate that the configuration of commuting spectrums mirror the changes in urban spatial structure in terms of job-housing proximity. In addition, the spatial variation, temporal change and regional differences in commuting can be significantly explained with job-housing proximity. Empirical results suggest that spatial decentralization pathways in Atlanta and Boston change the regional patterns of job-housing proximity, attracting people to commute longer distances. The relatively constrained spatial decentralization in Boston results in shorter commuting time and distance than in Atlanta. The empirical results point to a constrained and balanced vision of urban growth for achieving a commuting economy. Both urban growth management and transportation policies are needed to help achieve this vision.

Book Synopsis Spatial Microsimulation: A Reference Guide for Users by : Robert Tanton

Download or read book Spatial Microsimulation: A Reference Guide for Users written by Robert Tanton. This book was released on 2012-11-13. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a practical guide on how to design, create and validate a spatial microsimulation model. These models are becoming more popular as academics and policy makers recognise the value of place in research and policy making. Recent spatial microsimulation models have been used to analyse health and social disadvantage for small areas; and to look at the effect of policy change for small areas. This provides a powerful analysis tool for researchers and policy makers. This book covers preparing the data for spatial microsimulation; a number of methods for both static and dynamic spatial microsimulation models; validation of the models to ensure the outputs are reasonable; and the future of spatial microsimulation. The book will be an essential handbook for any researcher or policy maker looking to design and create a spatial microsimulation model. This book will also be useful to those policy makers who are commissioning a spatial microsimulation model, or looking to commission work using a spatial microsimulation model, as it provides information on the different methods in a non-technical way.

Book Synopsis Geographies of Mobility by : Mei-Po Kwan

Download or read book Geographies of Mobility written by Mei-Po Kwan. This book was released on 2018-10-11. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to bring together different philosophical, theoretical, and methodological approaches to the study of human mobility within the discipline of geography. With five thematic sections – conceptualizing and analyzing mobility, inequalities of mobility, politics of mobility, decentering mobility, and qualifying abstraction – and 27 substantive chapters by leading researchers in the field, it provides a comprehensive overview of the latest thinking about human mobility and related issues. The contributors discuss mobility issues as diverse as everyday mobilities of young people, migrants and refugees, and sex workers; the relationships between citizenship and mobility; and the potential and pitfalls of big data for understanding mobility. This, coupled with a broad international focus, means that Geographies of Mobility will not only encourage and enrich dialogue on a theme that is of major importance to varied geographic research communities, but will also be of great interest to students and researchers across the wider social sciences. This book was originally published as a special issue of Annals of the American Association of Geographers.
