Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuous feedback on a tire is an essential means to ensure tire safety. Smart tires are an important part of the future vehicle control system, which affects the safety and comfort of vehicles by combining sensors with traditional tires to achieve continuous monitoring of real-time dynamic parameters. A stretchable and flexible sensor made of laser-induced graphene (LIG) and PDMS, designed for use in smart tires, is presented in this work. The sensor is known as a LIG-PDMS sensor. Using transfer printing, LIG is formed on a commercial polyimide film under the scribing of a laser beam following the predesigned route before being transferred to a PDMS film. This technology is used to successfully prepare flexible sensors for measuring the tire road interaction at different driving speeds due to its flexibility and shape-following characteristics. The real-time monitoring of the wheel speed and the shape of the tire grounding mark during the driving process is realized by embedding multiple LIG sensors in the tire to monitor the strain information of the tire grounding. Results show that the tire deformation can be accurately feedbacked with the LIG sensors, demonstrating our method's capability for designing and manufacturing intelligent tires.

Book Synopsis Study of Laser-induced Graphene Based Flexible Humidity Sensor by : Zhaozheng Yu

Download or read book Study of Laser-induced Graphene Based Flexible Humidity Sensor written by Zhaozheng Yu. This book was released on 2019. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capacitive humidity sensors based on laser-induced graphene (LIG) were fabricated by using the CO2 laser to scribe on the commercial polyimide thin film (thickness = 50m). The laser-ablated region of the polyimide turns into a porous structure with carbon as the main composition. Raman spectra and scanning electron microscope were used to characterize the LIGs chemical and morphology. Patterning LIG into the interdigitated electrode (IDE) to serve as both the electrode and sensing materials was achieved in one step. The proposed flexible humidity sensor demonstrates the sensitivity of 10% and response/recovery time of 109s/13.5s, respectively. In general, a promising humidity sensor with improved response/recovery time and good sensitivity can be fabricated in an easy, fast, and low-cost manner.

Download or read book Printed Flexible Sensors written by Anindya Nag. This book was released on 2019-03-11. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents recent advances in the design, fabrication and implementation of flexible printed sensors. It explores a range of materials for developing the electrode and substrate parts of the sensors, on the basis of their electrical and mechanical characteristics. The sensors were processed using laser cutting and 3D printing techniques, and the sensors developed were employed in a number of healthcare, environmental and industrial applications, including: monitoring of physiological movements, respiration, salinity and nitrate measurement, and tactile sensing. The type of sensor selected for each application depended on its dimensions, robustness and sensitivity. The sensors fabricated were also embedded in an IoT-based system, allowing them to be integrated into real-time applications.

Book Synopsis Flexible Sensors for Energy-Harvesting Applications by : Anindya Nag

Download or read book Flexible Sensors for Energy-Harvesting Applications written by Anindya Nag. This book was released on 2022-04-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the fabrication of different types of flexible sensors and their subsequent implementation for energy-harvesting applications. A range of techniques, including 3D printing, soft lithography, laser ablation, micro-contract printing, screen-printing, inkjet printing and others have been used to form the flexible sensors with varied characteristics. These sensors have been used for biomedical, environmental and healthcare applications on the basis of their performances. The quality of these flexible sensors has depended on certain types of nanomaterials that have been used to synthesize the conductive parts of the prototypes. These nanomaterials have been based on different sizes and shapes, whose quality varied on the basis of certain factors like crystallinity, shapes and sizes. One of the primary utilization of these nanotechnology-based flexible sensors has been the harvesting of energy where nano-generators and nano-harvesters have been formed to generate and store energy, respectively, on small and moderate magnitudes. Mechanical and thermal energies have been harvested on the basis of the piezoelectric, pyroelectric and triboelectric effects created by the formed prototypes. The work highlights the amalgamation of these sectors to spotlight the essence of these types of sensors and their intended application.
