Book Synopsis Sticks Stones Broken Bones by : Wilkie, Jr

Download or read book Sticks Stones Broken Bones written by Wilkie, Jr. This book was released on 2024-07-12. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Page 4: The void left by my mother's neglect gnawed at me like a thousand ravenous teeth, tearing apart my emotions and leaving behind raw, jagged wounds. It was a tangled web of relief and abandonment that suffocated me with each breath, a constant reminder of her damaging influence on my life. "Gas the bitch." "Hang her like Pauli and throw away the key!" The once hushed whispers that trailed Geneviève through the hallways had now morphed into a deafening chorus of accusatory screams, each word cutting into her like a thousand daggers. With every step she took, she could feel the weight of judgmental stares boring into her back, their sharpness searing her skin. Page 24: Ophelia's desperation to keep her husband from leaving consumed her, leading her to manipulate him with deceit. She padded her stomach with a cushion, creating the illusion of pregnancy, and even went as far as printing a fake ultrasound from the depths of the internet. Her husband, blinded by love and excitement, fell for her ruse and eagerly dreamed of becoming a father. Page 63: The streets were a playground for Asma, adorned in head-to-toe Gucci and dripping with diamonds at the tender age of 15. She was whisked away in fast cars and welcomed into the coolest nightclubs, commanding respect from her peers that most students could only dream of. But behind the glamour and status, there was a darker side to Asma's life. Page 80: These communities are breeding grounds for toxicity, consuming every interaction with a venomous bile that poisons vulnerability and celebrates peer pressure. It's a brutal game, where players constantly push the limits in a sick competition of self-destruction. The severity of harm inflicted becomes a twisted measure of worth, with those who only scratch the surface mocked and those who plunge deeper hailed as gods. Heartless taunts like "That's pathetic" or "You're not even trying" are tossed around recklessly and without remorse, fueling this destructive mindset even further. Page:147 "You touched me! You touched me!" as her mother continued to accuse her repeatedly. Ophelia's hands trembled violently as she stood at the top of the grand staircase, her eyes fixated on the chaotic scene below. Page:209 As Penelope cradled her child, a sudden, overwhelming feeling of rage surged through her, consuming her entire being. It was as if an external force had taken hold of her, twisting her thoughts and filling her with an inexplicable urge to harm the very life she cherished most. The baby's innocent eyes gazed up at her, oblivious to the storm brewing within his mother's mind. Page:309 The demon howled in agony, its grip on Miles loosening. Miles seized the opportunity and pushed the demon off him, rolling to his feet. He and Penelope stood side by side, ready to face the creature together. The demon, now wounded and enraged, circled them, its eyes burning with hatred. With a final, desperate lunge, the demon attacked again, but this time, Penelope and Miles were ready. They moved in unison, striking out with whatever makeshift weapons they could find. Each blow weakened the demon, its form flickering and fading with each strike.

Book Synopsis Sticks, Stones, and Broken Bones by : Roger Taft Alford

Download or read book Sticks, Stones, and Broken Bones written by Roger Taft Alford. This book was released on 2013. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remains from twenty-four human burials recovered from the Bluff Creek Site (1LU59) in Alabama exhibited evidence of interpersonal conflict trauma. When the victims of interpersonal conflict were placed in their approximate time period, it became apparent that frequencies of interpersonal conflict changed over time, from the Archaic (15.4%) to Woodland (6.7%) to Mississippian (45.5%) periods. These changes are explained by changes in settlement patterns and associated stress over resource competition. As Archaic hunter-gatherers became less mobile and settled in to small "hamlets", the stress over competition for resources was reduced, causing the frequency of interpersonal conflict trauma to fall slightly in the Woodland period. The significant rise in the frequency for the Mississippian is related to the shift in settlement patterns from "hamlets" to large villages. As the large villages began to compete for resource territory, stress over competition for resources also increased.
