Book excerpt: Self-regulated learning is recognized as one of the most essential skills that students should possess in this information age. Nevertheless, most students are accustomed to the conventional teacher-centered way of learning, thus, they are not competent at self-regulated learning. A Self-Management Tool was developed to guide and enhance students' usage of self-regulated learning strategies. The tool comprises three components; Information-Management Tool, Personal-Management Tool and a Teacher's Manual. A quasi-experimental study was conducted to test its effectiveness and the details of this empirical research were documented in this monograph. The monograph is divided into six chapters, with detailed descriptions on the research methodology. The Self-Management Tool was found to be effective in improving students' self-regulated learning. The findings have significant research and educational implications. Recommendations for future research are included in the final chapter of the monograph.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychological assessments are used in the field of education to find answers for the questions raise concerning the student’s intellectual, academic, social and emotional functioning. The collection, integration, and interpretation of all information and data gathered from the assessment will enable better understanding of the student’s characteristics and capacities. More effective interventions, recommendations and referrals can then be implemented. This book offers researchers and practitioners insights on assessment concepts and practices that are in line with the demand of education in the 21st century. As the new horizon unfolded, there is a paradigm shift in assessment; moving from macro to micro level of learning, from accountability of school to supporting teaching and learning, from summative to formative and diagnostics, from assessing achievement of individuals to catering of learning needs of diverse learners. The new horizon of assessment serves as catalysis for more effective psychological assessment in educational research and practice.

Book Synopsis Teaching and Learning Language: Current Trends and Practices (Penerbit USM) by : Ambigapathy Pandian

Download or read book Teaching and Learning Language: Current Trends and Practices (Penerbit USM) written by Ambigapathy Pandian. This book was released on 2014-11-25. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents a collection of papers that relate to the challenges and problems posed by the ever-changing and diversified nature of today’s classroom. The papers discuss and demonstrate methodologies and learning strategies, and in the process, recommend effective practices that are practical and open to adaptation for different teaching and learning contexts. They range from suggestions on how to exploit information technology resources to individual or specific case studies. These case studies report on a variety of contextual issues and problems that are specified to particular learning contexts. This book, therefore, thus not only offers examples of tried and tested teaching strategies but also offers useful insights into specific sociocultural problems that are experienced by learners as well as teachers and interested stakeholders in particular settings and countries. The papers offer a comprehensive documentation of past as well as present problems faced by teachers, policy makers and students, and discuss ways and strategies of overcoming such problems such that the teaching and learning process is not only enhanced but made more meaningful and fulfilling to both teachers and learners. The inherently global perspective of the papers in this book makes it an enriching compendium.
