Book Synopsis Rethinking Performance Measurement by : Marshall W. Meyer

Download or read book Rethinking Performance Measurement written by Marshall W. Meyer. This book was released on 2003-01-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance measurement remains a vexing problem for business firms and other kinds of organisations. This book explains why: the performance we want to measure (long-term cash flows, long-term viability) and the performance we can measure (current cash flows, customer satisfaction, etc.) are not the same. The 'balanced scorecard', which has been widely adopted by US firms, does not solve these underlying problems of performance measurement and may exacerbate them because it provides no guidance on how to combine dissimilar measures into an overall appraisal of performance. A measurement technique called activity-based profitability analysis (ABPA) is suggested as a partial solution, especially to the problem of combining dissimilar measures. ABPA estimates the revenue consequences of each activity performed for the customer, allowing firms to compare revenues with costs for these activities and hence to discriminate between activities that are ultimately profitable and those that are not.

Book Synopsis Transforming Performance Measurement by : Dean Spitzer

Download or read book Transforming Performance Measurement written by Dean Spitzer. This book was released on 2007-02-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance improvement thought leader Dean Spitzer explains why performance measurement should be less about calculations and analysis and more about the crucial social factors that determine how well the measurements get used. Transforming Performance Measurement presents a breakthrough approach that will not only significantly reduce those dysfunctions, but also promote alignment with business strategy, maximize cross-enterprise integration, and help everyone to work collaboratively to drive value throughout your organization. Spitzer’s "socialization of measurement" process focuses on learning and improvement from measurement, and on the importance of asking such questions as: How well do our measures reflect our business model? How successfully are they driving our strategy? What should we be measuring and not measuring? Are the right people having the right measurement discussions? Performance measurement is a dynamic process that calls for an awareness of the balance necessary between seemingly disparate ideas: the technical and the social aspects of performance measurement. This book gives you assessment tools to gauge where you are now and a roadmap for moving, with little or no disruption, to a more "transformational" and mature measurement system. The book also provides 34 TMAPs, Transformational Measurement Action Plans, which suggest both well-accepted and "emergent" measures (in areas such as marketing, human resources, customer service, knowledge management, productivity, information technology, research and development, costing, and more) that you can use right away. Transforming Performance Measurement tells you not only what to measure, but how to do it -- and in what context -- to make a truly transformational difference in your enterprise.

Download or read book Rethinking Performance Management, Enhanced Executive Edition written by M. Tamra Chandler. This book was released on 2016-06-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The video enhanced executive edition of How Performance Management is Killing Performance – and What to Do About It was created with the busy leader in mind. Offering targeted information and insight, and with over 26 minutes of videos and animations throughout, Rethinking Performance Management – A Leader's Guide has been adapted from the original edition to focus on only the points that you, as a leader of an organization, need to know. This means it's much shorter than the original with more of a focus on the big picture theory and less on the step-by-step. Most people associate performance management with the annual review, which is universally dreaded by employees, management, and HR professionals alike. In this short guide, author Tamra Chandler lays out the key points of creating a performance management process that is not only tailored to your organization's needs and goals, but that employees will actually embrace. Each of the six condensed chapters include short animations or video featuring Tamra herself to sum up the major takeaways for leaders. For those of us who need to be on the cutting edge of this emerging subject, but don't have as much time as we'd like, Rethinking Performance Management – A Leader's Guide offers the perfect framework to provide insight to the benefits of evolving performance management systems, a process which must be led, championed by the leaders in the organization.
