Book Synopsis The Routledge Handbook of Global Public Policy and Administration by : Thomas R. Klassen

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Global Public Policy and Administration written by Thomas R. Klassen. This book was released on 2016-11-10. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Global Public Policy and Administration is a comprehensive leading-edge guide for students, scholars and practitioners of public policy and administration. Public policy and administration are key aspects of modern societies that affect the daily lives of all citizens. This handbook examines current trends and reforms in public policy and administration, such as financial regulation, risk management, public health, e-government and many others at the local, national and international levels. The two themes of the book are that public policy and administration have acquired an important global aspect, and that a critical role for government is the regulation of capital. The handbook is organized into three thematic sections – Contemporary Challenges, Policy and Administration Responses and Forging a Resilient Public Administration – to allow readers to quickly access knowledge and improve their understanding of topics. The opening chapter, introductions to sections and extensive glossary aid readers to most effectively learn from the book. Each chapter provides a balanced overview of current knowledge, identifying issues and discussing relevant debates. The book is written by authors from Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and Australia.

Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Global Policy and Transnational Administration by : Diane Stone

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Global Policy and Transnational Administration written by Diane Stone. This book was released on 2019-01-10. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global policy making is unfurling in distinctive ways above traditional nation-state policy processes. New practices of transnational administration are emerging inside international organizations but also alongside the trans-governmental networks of regulators and inside global public private partnerships. Mainstream policy and public administration studies have tended to analyse the capacity of public sector hierarchies to globalize national policies. By contrast, this Handbook investigates new public spaces of transnational policy-making, the design and delivery of global public goods and services, and the interdependent roles of transnational administrators who move between business bodies, government agencies, international organizations, and professional associations. This Handbook is novel in taking the concepts and theories of public administration and policy studies to get inside the black box of global governance. Transnational administration is a multi-actor and multi-scalar endeavour having manifestations, depending on the policy issue or problems, at the local, urban, sub-regional, sub-national, regional, national, supranational, supra-regional, transnational, international, and global scales. These scales of 'local' and 'global' are not neatly bounded and nested spaces but are articulated together in complex patterns of policy activity. These transnational patterns represent a reinvigoration of public administration and policy studies as the Handbook authors advance their analysis beyond the methodological nationalism of the nation-state.

Book excerpt: This book is an attempt to understand the challenges of globalization and governance in the public sector. Written from the perspectives of both developed and developing countries, it uses governance and public administration interchangeably to argue that the tasks of implementation require the cooperation of both the public and private sectors, especially in a rapidly globalizing landscape. It then utilizes statistical analyses to investigate the challenges of globalization in managing human resources, ethics and accountability, sustainability, e-governances, and leadership in the public sector.
