Business models are not only dependent on business intuition, but also on systematic design and continuous upgrade. This book presents qualitative methods, such as the theory and principles of business model design; quantitative methods, for example the business-model based "Accounting Method"; and the "Financial Analysis Method," based on the business ecosystem. Book excerpt: Business modelling is a vast arena of research and practice, which is gaining increasing important in the rapid development of e-commerce, globalization, and in particular, the movement toward global e-business. The ability to utilize advanced computing technology to model, analyse and simulate various aspects of ever-changing businesses has made a significant impact on the way businesses are designed and run these days. With the current global e-business and e-commerce initiatives, it has become important that all businesses carefully validate their business objectives, requirements, and strategies through a careful process of formal business modelling. It is important for effective enterprise decision making to have clear, concise business models that allow the extraction of critical value from business processes and specify the rules to be globally enforced. Particularly in e-business specifications, the need to be unambiguous, accurate, and complete becomes even greater, because there may be no human mediator or agent to rely on in complex or unforeseen situations. Business Modelling: Multidisciplinary Approaches - Economics, Operational, and Information Systems Perspectives, arranged in three parts, brings scholarly perspectives from various disciplines to bear on some of the critical aspects of business modeling. The first part (chapters 1-8) focuses on business modelling fundamentals and starts with a series of economics and operations research perspectives. The second part (chapters 9-19) concentrates on modelling in electronic businesses and focuses on Management Information Systems and Decision Support Systems. The third part (chapters 20-22) centers on multidisciplinary business modelling progress, in particular on the seminal work of Professor Andrew B. Whinston.

Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Innovation economics, grade: 4-th year of PhD, Saint-Petersburg State University of Economics, language: English, abstract: In the article it is asserted that business model innovation potential has not yet been fully released first because of a lack of business model definition and a consistent methodological framework, second because, on a more general plan, the whole system of assumptions on which innovation activity of this kind has been based possibly needs re-evaluation. It is argued that a change of theoretical foundation is needed because of systemic inconsistencies which impede present approaches application. It is assumed that difficulties arise due to peculiarities of mainstream economics framework upon which these approaches have implicitly been built. While authors of neoclassical approaches admit outside factors influence on the business model, these factors remain conceptually isolated from the business model. To overcome this problem there has been suggested a framework for business model innovation based on the evolutionary economic theory. The evolutionary approach to business model innovation is characterised by focus on processes of long-term change and economic agents cause-effect relationship. It is being realised by reference to the evolutionary process that has moulded stable patterns of behaviour of companies on a chosen market. By this reference a trajectory of development of value perception and principles of value creation or business models can be traced and understood, since relationship between routines, value, and business models are mutually dependent. Generalised principles of value creation or basic business models of a market in question are to be adjusted to particular circumstances of an

Download or read book Digital Business Models written by Bernd W. Wirtz. This book was released on 2019-04-02. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spread of the Internet into all areas of business activities has put a particular focus on business models. The digitalization of business processes is the driver of changes in company strategies and management practices alike. This textbook provides a structured and conceptual approach, allowing students and other readers to understand the commonalities and specifics of the respective business models. The book begins with an overview of the business model concept in general by presenting the development of business models, analyzing definitions of business models and discussing the significance of the success of business model management. In turn, Chapter 2 offers insights into and explanations of the business model concept and provides the underlying approaches and ideas behind business models. Building on these foundations, Chapter 3 outlines the fundamental aspects of the digital economy. In the following chapters the book examines various core models in the business to consumer (B2C) context. The chapters follow a 4-C approach that divides the digital B2C businesses into models focusing on content, commerce, context and connection. Each chapter describes one of the four models and provides information on the respective business model types, the value chain, core assets and competencies as well as a case study. Based on the example of Google, Chapter 8 merges these approaches and describes the development of a hybrid digital business model. Chapter 9 is dedicated to business-to-business (B2B) digital business models. It shows how companies focus on business solutions such as online provision of sourcing, sales, supportive collaboration and broker services. Chapter 10 shares insight into the innovation aspect of digital business models, presenting structures and processes of digital business model innovation. The book is rounded out by a comprehensive case study on Google/Alphabet that combines all aspects of digital business models. Conceived as a textbook for students in advanced undergraduate courses, the book will also be useful for professionals and practitioners involved in business model innovation, and applied researchers.
