Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Innovation economics, grade: 4-th year of PhD, Saint-Petersburg State University of Economics, language: English, abstract: In the article it is asserted that business model innovation potential has not yet been fully released first because of a lack of business model definition and a consistent methodological framework, second because, on a more general plan, the whole system of assumptions on which innovation activity of this kind has been based possibly needs re-evaluation. It is argued that a change of theoretical foundation is needed because of systemic inconsistencies which impede present approaches application. It is assumed that difficulties arise due to peculiarities of mainstream economics framework upon which these approaches have implicitly been built. While authors of neoclassical approaches admit outside factors influence on the business model, these factors remain conceptually isolated from the business model. To overcome this problem there has been suggested a framework for business model innovation based on the evolutionary economic theory. The evolutionary approach to business model innovation is characterised by focus on processes of long-term change and economic agents cause-effect relationship. It is being realised by reference to the evolutionary process that has moulded stable patterns of behaviour of companies on a chosen market. By this reference a trajectory of development of value perception and principles of value creation or business models can be traced and understood, since relationship between routines, value, and business models are mutually dependent. Generalised principles of value creation or basic business models of a market in question are to be adjusted to particular circumstances of an

Book excerpt: Digital technologies have allowed for the proliferation of new business models, something that has attracted the attention of academic research. Much of this research has focused on (i) understanding what a business model is and its theoretical connection to the concept of strategy, and (ii) exploring what business model innovation is and what its sources and outcomes are. Less work has gone into studying the issues that established firms face in business model innovation – such as how to respond to the arrival of a disruptive business model in one's industry, or how to compete with dual business models or how to migrate from one business model to another. This Element approaches the topic of business model innovation from the perspective of the established firm and examines the unique strategic and organizational issues that big, established companies face when a new business model enters their markets.

Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship by : Christina Ellen Shalley

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship written by Christina Ellen Shalley. This book was released on 2015. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creativity can be viewed as the first stage of the overall innovation process, an important dimension of the entrepreneurship and new venture creation processes, and as such, it is considered to be a cornerstone of organizational competitiveness in this global, knowledge-based economy. Research on creativity has increasingly become multilevel, with most work conducted at the individual or team level of analysis. At the same time, there is a large body of research being conducted at the organizational level of analysis on innovation, and there has been a significant amount of entrepreneurship research at the individual level, with an increasing focus on organizational entrepreneurship. However, these three research streams have developed independently, and there has been very little knowledge transfer between the three areas. Because entrepreneurship is often said to be a process that is required to convert innovation into business ventures that will deliver benefits to stakeholders, it is typically driven by an individual or small group of individuals. Creativity research, innovation research, and entrepreneurship research have the potential to inform each other, enriching our knowledge of each area, particularly with regard to the cognitive processes and behaviors that are most effective. This Handbook includes contributions from the leading scholars in these three research areas, who integrate contemporary research findings on organizational creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship and provide fruitful new research directions."

Book excerpt: Based on the author’s 30 years of consulting experience and validated by doctoral research, this book focuses on creating profitable growth with business model innovation in medium and large companies. Arising from an increased need for systems thinking and technological development, there is a common understanding that a business model should primarily create, develop, and retain value for companies' customers. But increased globalization and resource constraints have led to a difficult balancing act when addressing the challenges of achieving profitable processes and long-term growth. This book provides a new framework, based on six central themes with five related success factors each, to enhance opportunities’ visibility, contribute to improved margins, increase awareness of a company’s unique strengths and weaknesses in overall resources, manage risk, and optimize implementation of a new model throughout an entire organization. Owners, board members, and managers of medium and large companies worldwide, as well as advanced business students, will appreciate this detailed, practical, and clarifying approach to business model innovation.
