Book Synopsis Additional Principles and Methods of Analysis by : Gunter Zweig

Download or read book Additional Principles and Methods of Analysis written by Gunter Zweig. This book was released on 2013-10-22. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical Methods for Pesticides, Plant Growth Regulators, and Food Additives, Volume V: Additional Principles and Methods of Analysis covers the major advances in the analytical techniques used for the qualitative and quantitative determinations of minute amounts of pesticide and plant growth regulator residues in foods and crops. The book discusses developments in analytical methods (i.e. the polarographic technique, thin-layer chromatography) and their general applications; the analytical aspects of pesticide residue analyses in the environment; and specific analytical methods for formulation and residue analyses of insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and plant growth regulators. Agriculturists, agricultural engineers, toxicologists, and people involved in the study of pesticides and biochemicals will find the book invaluable.

Book Synopsis The Ethics of Technology by : Martin Peterson

Download or read book The Ethics of Technology written by Martin Peterson. This book was released on 2017-06-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autonomous cars, drones, and electronic surveillance systems are examples of technologies that raise serious ethical issues. In this analytic investigation, Martin Peterson articulates and defends five moral principles for addressing ethical issues related to new and existing technologies: the cost-benefit principle, the precautionary principle, the sustainability principle, the autonomy principle, and the fairness principle. It is primarily the method developed by Peterson for articulating and analyzing the five principles that is novel. He argues that geometric concepts such as points, lines, and planes can be put to work for clarifying the structure and scope of these and other moral principles. This geometric account is based on the Aristotelian dictum that like cases should be treated alike, meaning that the degree of similarity between different cases can be represented as a distance in moral space. The more similar a pair of cases are from a moral point of view, the closer is their location in moral space. A case that lies closer in moral space to a paradigm case for some principle p than to any paradigm for any other principle should be analyzed by applying principle p. The book also presents empirical results from a series of experimental studies in which experts (philosophers) and laypeople (engineering students) have been asked to apply the geometric method to fifteen real-world cases. The empirical findings indicate that experts and laypeople do in fact apply geometrically construed moral principles in roughly, but not exactly, the manner advocates of the geometric method believe they ought to be applied.

Book Synopsis Principles of Program Analysis by : Flemming Nielson

Download or read book Principles of Program Analysis written by Flemming Nielson. This book was released on 2015-02-27. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Program analysis utilizes static techniques for computing reliable information about the dynamic behavior of programs. Applications include compilers (for code improvement), software validation (for detecting errors) and transformations between data representation (for solving problems such as Y2K). This book is unique in providing an overview of the four major approaches to program analysis: data flow analysis, constraint-based analysis, abstract interpretation, and type and effect systems. The presentation illustrates the extensive similarities between the approaches, helping readers to choose the best one to utilize.

Book Synopsis Principles & Methods of Statistical Analysis by : Jerome Frieman

Download or read book Principles & Methods of Statistical Analysis written by Jerome Frieman. This book was released on 2017-01-20. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique intermediate/advanced statistics text uses real research on antisocial behaviors, such as cyberbullying, stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination, to help readers across the social and behavioral sciences understand the underlying theory behind statistical methods. By presenting examples and principles of statistics within the context of these timely issues, the text shows how the results of analyses can be used to answer research questions. New techniques for data analysis and a wide range of topics are covered, including how to deal with "messy data" and the importance of engaging in exploratory data analysis.
