Book Synopsis The Heresy of Jehovah's Witnesses by : H.H. Pope Shenouda III

Download or read book The Heresy of Jehovah's Witnesses written by H.H. Pope Shenouda III. This book was released on 1993-08-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jehovah’s Witnesses are not Christians. Although they believe in the New Testament, it is their own incorrect translation that is misconstrued to suit their beliefs. They do not call themselves Christians, but ‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’ - ‘Jehovah’ being a name of God used in the Old Testament. Their doctrine regarding the Lord Jesus Christ is completely different to the Christian doctrine; it is a mixture of the heresy of Arius, and other new heresies. They have even reached a level much worse than that of Arius by far. Many governments have expelled Jehovah’s Witnesses from their countries because they sensed the danger which they presented to the country’s general peace. Therefore, it can be said that they do not only propagate false religious beliefs, but they also propagate dangerous political ideas. As they say that the Church is a product of the devil, they also say that governments are a product of the devil, and encourage people not to enter the armed forces. They also consider saluting the flag as idolatry. Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe in the immortality of the soul and say that this is the teaching of the devil. They also say that after a person dies, he lives happily in the ‘earthly paradise’, thus contradicting all the promises of the heavenly kingdom. This booklet is merely a collection of articles that were published in the ‘El-Keraza’ English magazine, and which we considered publishing and distributing as an introduction to the upcoming book. Book Synopsis Leaving the Witness by : Amber Scorah

Download or read book Leaving the Witness written by Amber Scorah. This book was released on 2020-06-02. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A fascinating glimpse into the consciousness of being an outsider in every possible way, and what it takes to find your path into the life you'd like to lead."--Nylon A riveting memoir of losing faith and finding freedom while a covert missionary in one of the world's most restrictive countries. A third-generation Jehovah's Witness, Amber Scorah had devoted her life to sounding God's warning of impending Armageddon. She volunteered to take the message to China, where the preaching she did was illegal and could result in her expulsion or worse. Here, she had some distance from her community for the first time. Immersion in a foreign language and culture--and a whole new way of thinking--turned her world upside down, and eventually led her to lose all that she had been sure was true. As a proselytizer in Shanghai, using fake names and secret codes to evade the authorities' notice, Scorah discreetly looked for targets in public parks and stores. To support herself, she found work at a Chinese language learning podcast, hiding her real purpose from her coworkers. Now with a creative outlet, getting to know worldly people for the first time, she began to understand that there were other ways of seeing the world and living a fulfilling life. When one of these relationships became an "escape hatch," Scorah's loss of faith culminated in her own personal apocalypse, the only kind of ending possible for a Jehovah's Witness. Shunned by family and friends as an apostate, Scorah was alone in Shanghai and thrown into a world she had only known from the periphery--with no education or support system. A coming of age story of a woman already in her thirties, this unforgettable memoir examines what it's like to start one's life over again with an entirely new identity. It follows Scorah to New York City, where a personal tragedy forces her to look for new ways to find meaning in the absence of religion. With compelling, spare prose, Leaving the Witness traces the bittersweet process of starting over, when everything one's life was built around is gone.

Book Synopsis Understanding Jehovah's Witnesses by : Robert M. Bowman

Download or read book Understanding Jehovah's Witnesses written by Robert M. Bowman. This book was released on 1991. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This new translation of Horace's most widely read collection of poetry is rendered in modern, metrical English verse rather than the more common free verse found in many other translations. Jeffrey H. Kaimowitz adapts the Roman poet's rich and metrically varied poetry to English formal verse, reproducing the works in a way that maintains fidelity to the tone, timbre, and style of the originals while conforming to the rules of English prosody. Each poem is true to the sense and aesthetic pleasure of the Latin and carries with it the dignity, concision, and movement characteristic of Horace's writing. Kaimowitz presents each translation with annotations, providing the context necessary for understanding and enjoying Horace's work. He also comments on textual instability and explains how he constructed his verse renditions to mirror Horatian Latin. Horace and The Odes are introduced in lively fashion by noted classicist Ronnie Ancona"--BOOK JACKET.
