Book Synopsis Water Productivity Modeling by Remote Sensing in the Semiarid Region of Minas Gerais State, Brazil by : Antônio Heriberto de

Download or read book Water Productivity Modeling by Remote Sensing in the Semiarid Region of Minas Gerais State, Brazil written by Antônio Heriberto de. This book was released on 2018. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This chapter aimed to demonstrate the potential of monitoring water and vegetation parameters by combining weather and satellite measurements in mixed agroecosystems in the semiarid region of the northern Minas Gerais state, Southeast Brazil. Soil moisture indices and water productivity components were quantified with Landsat 8 images under different hydrological conditions along the year 2015. The surface resistance to the water fluxes (rs) performed better than the ratio of actual to the reference evapotranspiration (ETr) to detect soil moisture conditions. The mean pixel values for actual evapotranspiration (ET), biomass production (BIO), and water productivity based on evapotranspiration (WP), for irrigated crops (IC), ranged respectively from 2.5 ± 1.3 to 4.1 ± 1.6 mm d−1; 78 ± 62 to 132 ± 64 kg ha−1 d−1; and from 2.2 ± 0.8 to 3.3 ± 0.9 kg m−3. The corresponding ranges for natural vegetation (NV) were 0.1 ± 0.2 to 1.9 ± 1.3 mm d−1; 1 ± 1 to 44 ± 42 kg ha−1 d−1, and 0.6 ± 0.3 to 1.8 ± 0.8 kg m−3. The incremental values, resulting from the replacement of natural species by agricultural crops, were respectively 2.7 mm d−1 and 83 kg ha d−1. However, this replacement increased water productivity based on evapotranspiration (WP) by 264% during the studied year, what should be considered in land use and climate change studies in the Brazilian semiarid region.

Book Synopsis Advances in Remote Sensing for Natural Resource Monitoring by : Prem C. Pandey

Download or read book Advances in Remote Sensing for Natural Resource Monitoring written by Prem C. Pandey. This book was released on 2021-02-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable management of natural resources is an urgent need, given the changing climatic conditions of Earth systems. The ability to monitor natural resources precisely and accurately is increasingly important. New and advanced remote sensing tools and techniques are continually being developed to monitor and manage natural resources in an effective way. Remote sensing technology uses electromagnetic sensors to record, measure and monitor even small variations in natural resources. The addition of new remote sensing datasets, processing techniques and software makes remote sensing an exact and cost-effective tool and technology for natural resource monitoring and management. Advances in Remote Sensing for Natural Resources Monitoring provides a detailed overview of the potential applications of advanced satellite data in natural resource monitoring. The book determines how environmental and - ecological knowledge and satellite-based information can be effectively combined to address a wide array of current natural resource management needs. Each chapter covers different aspects of remote sensing approach to monitor the natural resources effectively, to provide a platform for decision and policy. This important work: Provides comprehensive coverage of advances and applications of remote sensing in natural resources monitoring Includes new and emerging approaches for resource monitoring with case studies Covers different aspects of forest, water, soil- land resources, and agriculture Provides exemplary illustration of themes such as glaciers, surface runoff, ground water potential and soil moisture content with temporal analysis Covers blue carbon, seawater intrusion, playa wetlands, and wetland inundation with case studies Showcases disaster studies s

Book Synopsis Arid Environments and Sustainability by : Hasan Arman

Download or read book Arid Environments and Sustainability written by Hasan Arman. This book was released on 2018-05-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arid environments are basically associated with water scarcity. Therefore, soils will have an extremely low moisture level to support plant and animal life as well as human social life. Sustainability is the long durability of systems and processes within various adapted environmental conditions. Recently, systematic scientific studies on arid environments and sustainability have become more attractive, critical, and sound than the previous years. Sharing such experiences related to different environmental circumstances will absolutely help scientists and decision-makers to have better interpretation of their own environment. By learning lessons, appropriate, fast, and effective approaches require to implement for overwhelming such problems. Such actions will certainly lead to more secure and sustainable environments for plant, animal, and human life.

Download or read book Remote Sensing of Hydrometeorological Hazards written by George P. Petropoulos. This book was released on 2017-11-02. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extreme weather and climate change aggravate the frequency and magnitude of disasters. Facing atypical and more severe events, existing early warning and response systems become inadequate both in scale and scope. Earth Observation (EO) provides today information at global, regional and even basin scales related to agrometeorological hazards. This book focuses on drought, flood, frost, landslides, and storms/cyclones and covers different applications of EO data used from prediction to mapping damages as well as recovery for each category. It explains the added value of EO technology in comparison with conventional techniques applied today through many case studies.

Book Synopsis Remote sensing and water resources by : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

Download or read book Remote sensing and water resources written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. This book was released on 1997. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication presents the results of an international workshop which was organized in Montpellier, France, in December 1995. The purpose of the workshop was to review the state of the art in the use of remote sensing for water resources assessment and management with special reference to operational techniques. Emphasis was given to surface hydrology, with applications for arid and semi-arid areas in developing countries for which such techniques are believed to be of particular relevance.
