Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work to be described in this paper addresses recent advances in the application of modeling and simulation (M & S) techniques to the problem of quantifying the force-level warfighting value-added of FORCEnet and related doctrine and systems in the context of realistic scenarios including Operational War Plans (OPLANs). The M & S activities discussed in this paper have been conducted in support of operational experiments and wargames, as part of analyses in support of CINC-level commands, and as a part of analyses in support of certain specific acquisition programs having the requirement to demonstrate synergy with ongoing U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Navy FORCEnet and Network Centric Warfare (NCW) improvement programs. Lessons-learned concerning the challenges associated with representing information technology (IT) infrastructure improvements along with required FORCEnet/NCW warfare process re-engineering (WPR) initiatives will be presented. An iterative cycle of WPR initiative formulation and evaluation is often a required part of an assessment of the force-level warfighting value-added of specific FORCEnet/NCW improvements. This paper will also describe the extent to which the M & S approaches employed in the analyses alluded to above are consistent with the OSD (C3I) Network Centric Warfare Conceptual Framework. This framework provides a basis for making quantitative assessments of the degree to which specific Mission Capabilities Packages (MCPs), IT infrastructure improvement initiatives, and associated warfighting process improvements yield operational value-added in the manner envisioned by the tenants of NCW.

Book Synopsis Defense Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis by : National Research Council

Download or read book Defense Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis written by National Research Council. This book was released on 2006-09-22. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) is a crucial tool for military affairs. MS&A is one of the announced pillars of a strategy for transforming the U.S. military. Yet changes in the enterprise of MS&A have not kept pace with the new demands arising from rapid changes in DOD processes and missions or with the rapid changes in the technology available to meet those demands. To help address those concerns, DOD asked the NRC to identify shortcomings in current practice of MS&A and suggest where and how they should be resolved. This report provides an assessment of the changing mission of DOD and environment in which it must operate, an identification of high-level opportunities for MS&A research to address the expanded mission, approaches for improving the interface between MS&A practitioners and decision makers, a discussion of training and continuing education of MS&A practitioners, and an examination of the need for coordinated military science research to support MS&A.

Download or read book Concepts and Methodologies for Modeling and Simulation written by Levent Yilmaz. This book was released on 2015-04-08. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive text presents cutting-edge advances in the theory and methodology of modeling and simulation (M&S) and reveals how this work has been influenced by the fundamental contributions of Prof. Tuncer Ören to this field. Exploring the synergies among the domains of M&S and systems engineering (SE), the book describes how M&S and SE can help to address the complex problems identified as “Grand Challenges” more effectively under a model-driven and simulation-directed systems engineering framework. Features: examines frameworks for the development of advanced simulation methodologies; presents a focus on advanced modeling methodologies; reviews the reliability and quality assurance of models; discusses the specification and simulation of human and social behavior, including models of personality, emotions, conflict management, perception and anticipation; provides a survey of the body of knowledge in M&S; highlights the foundations established by the pioneering work of Prof. Tuncer Ören.

Book Synopsis Guide to Modeling and Simulation of Systems of Systems by : Bernard Zeigler

Download or read book Guide to Modeling and Simulation of Systems of Systems written by Bernard Zeigler. This book was released on 2012-10-22. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This user’s reference is a companion to the separate book also titled “Guide to Modelling and Simulation of Systems of Systems.” The principal book explicates integrated development environments to support virtual building and testing of systems of systems, covering in some depth the MS4 Modelling EnvironmentTM. This user’s reference provides a quick reference and exposition of the various concepts and functional features covered in that book. The topics in the user’s reference are grouped in alignment with the workflow displayed on the MS4 Modeling EnvironmentTM launch page, under the headings Atomic Models, System Entity Structure, Pruning SES, and Miscellaneous. For each feature, the reference discusses why we use it, when we should use it, and how to use it. Further comments and links to related features are also included.
