Book excerpt: Love cannot resist an unbreakable heart… After losing the love of his life, Liam of Clan Kincaid is sent in service for what his uncle considers betrayal. He regrets the harsh words he had with his uncle, and so Liam gives himself to the battle-weary king, Robert the Bruce, and vows to mend his tarnished reputation. That would be easy if not for the lass who insists he aids her. Makenna Mackenzie has lived through hell, her home and land taken, by the English. All she wants is to take vengeance against the man who cut off her ear and destroyed everything held dear in her heart. The only way to achieve her goal is to plead with the legendary king’s guard. She wants them to train her to be a mercenary like them so she can use her sword to the fullest when she finally meets her enemy. Neither of them ever thought to find one another since their betrothal never came to fruition. But when Makenna asks for his aid, Liam agrees with one condition−that she marry him. Makenna has conditions of her own, and they make a pact to help each other. Their agreement leads them on a dangerous mission, one of which might be the end of them both. Liam finds himself in a quandary because Makenna is not the forthright lass he deems her to be. But his UNBREAKABLE HEART can withstand her, can’t it?

Book Synopsis Unbreakable Hearts: A True, Heart-wrenching Story About Victory...Forfeited! by : Earl Dusty Trimmer

Download or read book Unbreakable Hearts: A True, Heart-wrenching Story About Victory...Forfeited! written by Earl Dusty Trimmer. This book was released on 2019-05-16. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earl “Dusty” Trimmer relates with both skill and personal experience events surrounding our most forgetable and misunderstood war in America’s history. He brings it all home with his down-to-earth style and considerable knowledge. In Unbreakable Hearts, Dusty dives into the Vietnamese history and culture and skillfully brings the reader into understanding our Vietnamese enemy’s amazing resolve. He brilliantly explains the evolution of our Vietnamese enemy over hundreds of years of invasions and wars. Always defending their country to remain free became an art. In Chapter 7, Dusty describes the Vietnamese women fighters as “Hellcats.” My own experience with the formidable Vietnamese Viet Cong women’s skills and expertise closely mirrors Dusty’s. Hooch girls could plant booby traps in a GI’s hooch with a skill and savvy they were forced to learn during decades of on-the-job training in continuous wars with unwelcomed invaders. My own Military Police experience after leaving the infantry revealed these incidents vividly. In later chapters, Dusty moves into our own veterans’ profound resolve and toughness. North Vietnam’s famed General Giap called us “an honorable enemy.” One could suggest from this writing that our enemy taught us well. We did things in the Vietnam War the average person would have to go to the movies to believe. After reading Trimmer’s descriptions, I must conclude that indeed this book could be one for the movie industry. Dusty Trimmer brings to life our days and nights living and fighting in these foreboding jungle warfare conditions. After reading this fine work and reflecting on my own experiences, I cut away a little more of the pain. Pride swells for having served with all of these wonderful veterans of the Vietnam War. Pain for our terrible losses. For myself, these experiences culminated in wisdom I would otherwise have failed to achieve. God bless Dusty for telling our story. Forward march, Brothers!

Book excerpt: Tilly Maxwell is a freelance photographer in New York City who happens to take the right photo at the wrong time. While on a shoot, she captures in the background of one of her pictures a man who’s just committed a murder. A man whose perfect crime has now been foiled because of chance. Because of one ill-timed click of the camera, a photographer must be silenced, and Tilly’s now on the run for her life. John Osby, Oz, an ex Army Ranger who is now one of CEP’s best, is shocked to see Tilly when she calls on the agency needing help. Talk about a blast from the past. They’d attended high school together and he remembers her as the quiet, adorably awkward and somewhat nerdy photographer he'd had a crush on, but because their lives were so different, he didn’t dare cross the line with her, except for one drunken kiss. But now they're older, she’s blossomed into a real beauty and he intends on crossing any line he can to protect her… and have her as his own. A woman who adamantly guards her heart encounters the one man who may be able to break down her barriers. When the past collides with the present, boundaries will be pushed and unbreakable hearts will be tested to the limit.

Book Synopsis The Unbreakable Heart of Oliva Denaro by : Viola Ardone

Download or read book The Unbreakable Heart of Oliva Denaro written by Viola Ardone. This book was released on 2023-05-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the internationally bestselling author of The Children’s Train comes an unforgettable coming-of-age novel, set in 1960s Sicily and based on a true story, of how a young Sicilian girl defied centuries old tradition to win the right to control her own life. As provincial Sicily bursts into life with the jaunty hum of pop music and the heady scent of wild jasmine, fifteen-year-old Oliva Denaro dares to challenge convention, ignoring the taunts of peers, her mother’s scolds, and her own changing body. Spirited and carefree, she loves to run until her lungs burst: to feel the strength of her lithe limbs, to relish the freedom she cherishes, to honor the friends forced by propriety to conform. Though she knows she cannot stop growing up, Oliva resists the future. To her, becoming a woman means denying oneself. But adulthood comes all too quickly when the baker’s son sets his sights on her. Offered a blood orange, Oliva—haunted by her mother’s warning, “a girl who smiles has already said yes”—spurns the fruit. Yet, this act sets into motion an unwanted courtship that will force Oliva to fight for the right to choose her own path, even though the odds of winning are steep. While America and Europe are in the throes of social change, Sicily fiercely clings to its rigid traditions, including the custom of fuitina –by which kidnappings could be disguised as elopements– which is accepted and enshrined in law. Oliva’s battle for independence is based on the real-life story that would ultimately rock Italy–capturing the attention of both the Pope and the nation’s president—and transform life for all Italians. The Unbreakable Heart of Oliva Denaro is a lyrical tale of staggering beauty. Viola Ardone beautifully evokes a land and its people, customs, and passions, and breathes life into an unforgettable girl in all her intensity, desperation, perseverance, and bravery. Alternating between the lighthearted and the tragic, it is a classic coming-of-age novel—powerful, spellbinding, and liberating. Translated from the Italian by Clarissa Botsford

Aarons poetry covers a wide range of topics, from the ups and downs of love to taking one step at a time to get ones life back on track. He has created his poetry collection with the hope that at least one poem may have life breathed into it through the pairing of his lyrics with the right music.
