Book Synopsis Transients for Electrical Engineers by : Paul J. Nahin

Download or read book Transients for Electrical Engineers written by Paul J. Nahin. This book was released on 2018-07-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a concise introduction to the analysis of electrical transients aimed at students who have completed introductory circuits and freshman calculus courses. While it is written under the assumption that these students are encountering transient electrical circuits for the first time, the mathematical and physical theory is not ‘watered-down.’ That is, the analysis of both lumped and continuous (transmission line) parameter circuits is performed with the use of differential equations (both ordinary and partial) in the time domain, and the Laplace transform. The transform is fully developed in the book for readers who are not assumed to have seen it before. The use of singular time functions (unit step and impulse) is addressed and illustrated through detailed examples. The appearance of paradoxical circuit situations, often ignored in many textbooks (because they are, perhaps, considered ‘difficult’ to explain) is fully embraced as an opportunity to challenge students. In addition, historical commentary is included throughout the book, to combat the misconception that the material in engineering textbooks was found engraved on Biblical stones, rather than painstakingly discovered by people of genius who often went down many wrong paths before finding the right one. MATLAB® is used throughout the book, with simple codes to quickly and easily generate transient response curves.

Book Synopsis Electrical Transients in Power Systems by : Allan Greenwood

Download or read book Electrical Transients in Power Systems written by Allan Greenwood. This book was released on 1991-04-18. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principles of the First Edition--to teach students and engineers the fundamentals of electrical transients and equip them with the skills to recognize and solve transient problems in power networks and components--also guide this Second Edition. While the text continues to stress the physical aspects of the phenomena involved in these problems, it also broadens and updates the computational treatment of transients. Necessarily, two new chapters address the subject of modeling and models for most types of equipment are discussed. The adequacy of the models, their validation and the relationship between model and the physical entity it represents are also examined. There are now chapters devoted entirely to isolation coordination and protection, reflecting the revolution that metal oxide surge arresters have caused in the power industry. Features additional and more complete illustrative material--figures, diagrams and worked examples. An entirely new chapter of case studies demonstrates modeling and computational techniques as they have been applied by engineers to specific problems.

Book Synopsis Electromagnetic Transients in Power Systems by : Pritindra Chowdhuri

Download or read book Electromagnetic Transients in Power Systems written by Pritindra Chowdhuri. This book was released on 1996. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetic transients in power systems are generated by lightning and switching surges and can result in frequent and costly failures of electrical systems. This book explains modern theories of the generation, propagation and interaction of electrical transients with electrical systems. It also covers practices for the protection of electrical systems against transients.Presents the basic mathematical and physical principles of electromagnetic transients. -- Addresses topics that are of prime importance to the electric power industry today, including lightning-induced voltages on overhead lines, protection of substations, and the effects of transient on low-voltage systems. -- Includes problems to facilitate understanding of the various topics.
