Book Synopsis Pathways through Early Modern Christianities by : Andreea Badea

Download or read book Pathways through Early Modern Christianities written by Andreea Badea. This book was released on 2023-06-12. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the midst of a global pandemic, the Frankfurt POLY (Polycentricity and Plurality of Premodern Christianities) Lectures on "Pathways through Early Modern Christianities" brought together a virtual, global community of scholars and students in the Spring and Summer of 2021 to discuss the fascinating nature of early modern religious life. In this book, eleven pathbreaking scholars from the "four corners" of the early modern world reflect on the analytical tools that structure their field and that they have developed, revised and embraced in their scholarship: from generations to tolerance, from uniformity to publicity, from accommodation to local religion, from polycentrism to connected histories, and from identity to object agency. Together, the chapters of this reference work help both students and advanced researchers alike to appreciate the extent of our current knowledge about early modern christianities in their interconnected global context—and what exciting new travels could lie ahead.

Book Synopsis Jesuits and Asian Goods in the Iberian Empires, 1580–1700 by : Pedro Omar Svriz-Wucherer

Download or read book Jesuits and Asian Goods in the Iberian Empires, 1580–1700 written by Pedro Omar Svriz-Wucherer. This book was released on 2023-06-29. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the exchange relations between the colonies of the Iberian Empires, starting from two cities ports, Buenos Aires and Macau in the period 1580-1700. Agents, who were not professional traders such as the members of the Society of Jesus, and the circulation and consumption of Asian goods in the local populations of Buenos Aires and Macau, were analyzed. Both cases of study will show us how these non-state agents- the Jesuits- build their own networks and exchange channels to Chinese goods distribution (i.e silk, porcelain, musk, amber and others) between Asia and Latin American. This book intends to break with the local scheme of Jesuit studies in order to combine the local scale with analysis of inter-regional processes on a continental scale, from a comparative perspective.
