Book Synopsis The Siddhivad Corpse Stories of Tibet by : Ryoshun Kajihama

Download or read book The Siddhivad Corpse Stories of Tibet written by Ryoshun Kajihama. This book was released on 2011-07-22. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a scholarly translation of twenty-six stories with an introduction story from a very old handwritten Tibetan book. All the stories are told by a Siddhivad corpse while being carried on the back of a Prince. 62 full page illustrations, 303 pages These Tibetan Ro Dung (corpse stories) have their roots in Indian Vetala (spirits inhabiting corpses) literature. They entered Tibet hundreds of years ago and are now the most famous literature in Tibet. All the stories (except the introduction story) are told by a Siddhivad (spirit in a corpse) while being carried on the back of a prince. If the prince speaks even one word, the Siddhivad would get out of the bag and fly away, forcing the prince to capture the Siddhivad again. During my many years of research, I have collected many Tibetan Ro Dung (corpse story) books and have divided them into two types. The first type are the U-Me (dBu med) books hand written in Tibet before 1959. This was the year the Dalai Lama and others escaped to India. The second type of corpse story books are the ones made by a printing press, they are also called, U-Chen, the same as the old woodblock prints. They are in the Tibetan language printed in China, Tibet and India. Today, many publishers are reprinting this second type, but they edit them into modern Tibetan script, so people can easily read them today. So, the first type of U-Me corpse stories are more valuable to Tibetan scholars. This book here that I translated is from the first type.

Book excerpt: Tales of the Golden Corpse is the first complete English version of the famous Tibetan folktales told to a young boy who has killed seven sorcerers in the defense of his Master. The boy must redeem himself by carrying a talking corpse full of wondrous tales on a long journey, without himself speaking a word. These 25 tales of intrigue and magic provide the reader with a window through which to view ancient Tibetan culture. Within them, you will encounter heroes and villains, fearsome witches, murderous demons, and clever tricksters with a uniquely Tibetan humor. Songs, riddles, jokes, and sayings make the stories come alive as they unfold against the background of everyday Tibet—its farmers and nomads, kings and magical beings.

Book Synopsis The Tibetan Book of the Dead by : Graham Coleman

Download or read book The Tibetan Book of the Dead written by Graham Coleman. This book was released on 2008-11-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acclaimed English translation of this masterpiece of world literature - prepared with the participation of the Dalai Lama One of the greatest works created by any culture and one of the most influential of all Tibetan Buddhist texts in the West, The Tibetan Book of the Dead has had a number of distinguished translations, but strangely all of these have been partial abridgements. Now the entire text has not only been made available in English but in a translation of quite remarkable clarity and beauty. A comprehensive guide to living and dying, The Tibetan Book of the Dead contains exquisitely written guidance and practices related to transforming our experience in daily life, on the processes of dying and the after-death state, and on how to help those who are dying. As originally intended this is as much a work for the living, as it is for those who wish to think beyond a mere conventional lifetime to a vastly greater and grander cycle. 'Extraordinary ... this work will be a source of inspiration and support to many' His Holiness the Dalai Lama
