Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Sugar Bulletin, Vol. 35: October 1, 1956 In the fall of 1953 records were kept on a total of single stools for stalk diameter, erectness of stalk, number of stalks per stool, and Brix. In November 1953 clones were established from single stools of the seven crosses. Sufficient material was used to establish five-foot plots of each clone. When available, 150 clones of each cross were planted, but in the case of two of the crosses, fewer than 150 were available. In order to compare the performance of the parents with the progeny, four plots of each parent were inter spersed among the plantings.
