Book excerpt: The sovereignty of God is a doctrine that has been debated by Christians for centuries. For some, this remains a passionate topic, creating different camps among Christians, endlessly arguing about whether God’s sovereignty and human free will can co-exist. For the majority, the doctrine is a vague concept that remains to be explored. This book deals with these issues by examining what the Bible says about God’s sovereignty and human responsibility. It explores the sovereignty of God by looking at God as the Creator, Saviour, Shepherd and Judge, and tackles questions that commonly emerge. If we believe that God is truly sovereign, then we must live out the implications by living faithfully and responsibly—by trusting and obeying Him amid the challenges of life, praying to Him, sharing about Him with others, and serving and hoping in Him. Our relationship with Him is an important way to understand how His grace, purpose, and power invite us to respond responsibly to Him in active discipleship.

Book excerpt: You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. -Psalms 139:3-5 The sovereignty of God. Actively working. Every day. In every way. And He is actively working in you - you who believe in Jesus! The Gospel of Christ, seeing God’s sovereignty within salvation and now also within our lives, this study should help you see the glory of Christ in your daily walk of faith. Salvation is not a one-time event, and I challenge conventional wisdom -- it is not solely because of your or my efforts. For it is a gift of grace through faith given by God. For beneath our faith in Jesus is God’s active working within our hearts. Now with the Holy Spirit living within us, He works daily in us to the council of His will toward, in, and through us - giving us His grace, wisdom, and comfort each day. This book, with the Bible in hand, highlights scriptures - with my comments as a flashlight - to showcase the glory of God and to help reveal to believers and seekers alike the high value of Jesus!

Book Synopsis The Sovereignty of God by : Arthur W. Pink

Download or read book The Sovereignty of God written by Arthur W. Pink. This book was released on 2013-04-22. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the following pages an attempt has been made to examine anew in the light of God's Word some of the profoundest questions which can engage the human mind. Oth¬ers have grappled with these mighty problems in days gone by and from their labors we are the gainers. While mak¬ing no claim for originality the writer, nevertheless, has endeavored to examine and deal with his subject from an entirely independent viewpoint. We have studied diligently the writings of such men as Augustine and Acquinas, Calvin and Melancthon, Jonathan Edwards and Ralph Erskine, Andrew Fuller and Robert Haldane.* And sad it is to think that these eminent and honored names are almost entirely unknown to the present generation. Though, of course, we do not endorse all their conclusions, yet we gladly acknowledge our deep indebtedness to their works. We have purposely refrained from quoting freely from these deeply taught theologians, because we desired that the faith of our readers should stand not in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. For this reason we have quoted freely from the Scriptures and have sought to furnish proof texts for every statement we have advanced. Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and Biblical scholar known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (an occult gnostic group popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death,' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.

Download or read book The Sovereignty of God written by Arthur Pink. This book was released on 2022-05-17. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sovereignty of God is a religion classic by English Bible teacher Arthur Pink who articulates and relates the Biblical truths of God's absolute Sovereignty with the main goal to exalt God solely from the pages of Scripture. Pink attempts to draw closer the tension between the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man, an eternal question that remains debated even though it's seemingly plainly taught in the Scripture. The author's focus is on the divine side of the issue, defining God's sovereignty and presenting the different spheres that it works and operates. Further on he turns to the tension between the sovereignty of God and human will and responsibility.

Book excerpt: Many people in today's world have a difficult time justifying the thought of God's sovereignty in our troubled world. Pink tries to answer such questions by showing that God is in control in creation and salvation, how that works with humanity's free will and finally how we should react in these dark times.
