Book Synopsis Human Security, Transnational Crime and Human Trafficking by : Shiro Okubo

Download or read book Human Security, Transnational Crime and Human Trafficking written by Shiro Okubo. This book was released on 2011-03-17. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, drug use, illegal migration and human trafficking have all become more common in Asia, North America and Asia: the problems of organized crime and human trafficking are no longer confined to operating at the traditional regional level. This book fills a gap in the current literature by examining transnational crime, human trafficking and its implications for human security from both Western and Asian perspectives. The book: Provides an outline of the overall picture of organized crime and human trafficking in the contemporary world, examining the current trends and recent developments contrasts the experience and perception of these problems in Asia with those in the West, by analyzing the distinctive Japanese perspective on globalization, human security and transnational crime examines the policy responses of key states and international institutions in Germany, Canada, the United States, the European Union, Japan, and Korea. This book argues that any effort to combat these crimes requires a response that addresses the welfare of human beings alongside the standard criminal law response. It represents a timely analysis of the increasingly serious problems of transnational crime, human trafficking and security.

Download or read book Human Trafficking as a New (In)Security Threat written by Elżbieta M. Goździak. This book was released on 2021-01-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book challenges the rhetoric linking ‘war on terror’ with ‘war on human trafficking’ by juxtaposing lived experiences of survivors of trafficking, refugees, and labor migrants with macro-level security concerns. Drawing on research in the United States and in Europe, Goździak shows how human trafficking has replaced migration in public narratives, policy responses, and practice with migrants and analyzes lived experiences of (in)security of trafficked victims, irregular migrants, and asylum seekers. .

Book Synopsis Security Implications of Human-Trafficking Networks by :

Download or read book Security Implications of Human-Trafficking Networks written by . This book was released on 2007. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalization has provided many people around the world with enhanced economic opportunities. Unfortunately, organized crime groups have used these new opportunities for personal gain by trafficking other humans into situations where they are denied basic human rights. Although human trafficking is not a new phenomenon, globalization has increased worldwide competition, which has intensified the demand for cheaper goods and services. The cost of labor for the production of goods and for the provision of services needs to be kept low to keep prices low and to maximize profits. This demand has increased the need for low-cost labor and has allowed human trafficking to become a profitable business for organized crime groups around the world. Consequently, it seems likely that human trafficking will continue to grow. The primary research question examined in this thesis is as follows: What are the implications of human-trafficking networks for the security of the United States? The secondary research questions include the following: What is human trafficking?, How is human trafficking carried out?, and How do criminal networks participate in human trafficking? The author contends that the United States must investigate any connections between the operations of human-trafficking networks and terrorist groups and the potential implications these connections could have for national security. The case study presented in this thesis focuses on the connections that exist between human-trafficking networks and terrorist organizations in Kosovo.
