Book Synopsis The Print-Collector's Handbook by : Alfred Whitman

Download or read book The Print-Collector's Handbook written by Alfred Whitman. This book was released on 2015-06-25. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Print-Collector's Handbook In the following pages an attempt is made to supply answers to some of the many questions that a number of years' experience has shown to be those most frequently asked by art amateurs at the commencement of their print-collecting, and also by those who have devoted some time and attention to the pursuit of their hobby. In consequence of the limitation of a single volume like the present one, it has been thought best to refrain from commenting upon the etchings and engravings of living artists whose place in art is not yet definitely fixed. Most of the illustrations have been made by the half-tone process; but in order that collectors may more closely examine the actual technique of the different methods of engraving, specimens of the various styles have been reproduced in collotype. In this latter process no screen or visible foreign grain intervenes to impair or destroy the texture of the original work, and the results are therefore as faithful as a mechanical process will yield. These collotype reproductions can be easily identified by reference to the List of Illustrations. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.
