To-day it does not seem willing to pay these prices. We have only enough orders on hand and enough business in sight to work two or three days a week. But if we can reduce our costs of manufacture and thereby reduce our prices, we feel very certain that we will be able to work six days a week. Now, it is up to you. Vould you rather work two or three days at the present wage or six days at a slight decrease?" If the necessity comes--and, mind, it is a large IF---before putting up this proposition to the workmen, and if--and here again a large IF--they accept it, then it will be that prices will come down. Domestic Glassware I/Vhen all is said and done the past year has been an excellent one so far as domestic glassware manufacturers are concerned--and this applies without reservation to every branch of the trade. Costs have been increased, it is true, but so have prices. The latter have not been put up inordinately, but they have been put up to an extent sufficient to cover the advances the manufacturers have had to make to their workmen as well as those they have been forced to give to their sources of supply. Had the year been one of uninterrupted activity, it would unquestionably have been the most successful the trade has ever seen, but unfortunate freight shipments have been held up and lack of supplies has prevented continuous operation. The fuel situation in particular has militated against steady runs. In this connection it may be remarked that the fuel problem is the most serious that confronts the glass manufacturer at the present time.
