Book Synopsis Politics of Film Adaptation by : Muhammad Numan

Download or read book Politics of Film Adaptation written by Muhammad Numan. This book was released on 2019-10-12. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the expression of such narratives of imperialism and colonialism which have deeper routes of stereotyping and carried out through film adaptations. Focusing on the political siding of forty film adaptations cinematized during the 9/11 era, this book bridges the cinematizing of film adaptation before and after the 9/11. It revisits the major conflicting scenesbetween these film adaptations and their source works on common ground in general, and the adapting process of The Quiet American (1958), The Quiet American (2002) and The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012) based on the texts: Graham Greene's The Quiet American (1955) and Mohsin Hamid's The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2007) respectively. Taking into account thepolitical context of adaptations, this book concerns with the representation of New World Order and stereotyping after 9/11 attacks on World Trade Center in film adaptations. In this regard, this book approaches Linda Hutcheon's Theory of Film Adaptation to analyze the film adaptations in political context whereas Noam Chomsky's "Vision of Righteousness" and Edward Said's concept of Stereotyping together supply a framework as a point of departure to examine the textual and contextual parameters of the major conflicting scenes. The aim of writing this book is to examine the faithfulness of film producers to the source works in general and to locate the political motifs of film producers in adaptations of 9/11 fiction in particular.

Book Synopsis The Politics of Film Adaptation by : Patricia Elise Nelson

Download or read book The Politics of Film Adaptation written by Patricia Elise Nelson. This book was released on 2010. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis investigates the political and social contexts of the adaptation of the 1992 novel The Children of Men, written by prolific British mystery writer P.D. James, to a 2006 US film of the same title, directed by Alfonso Cuarón. Both novel and film share the same premise, imagining a future world where human reproduction is no longer possible; however, each deals with drastically different ideological and political concerns. As a case study of the politics of adaptation, this project considers adaptation as both a product and a process, analyzing representation, medium specificity, genre and political contexts as well as issues of production and reception.
