The existence of this ruby ring is taken from a legend about Katharine of Aragon, the first wife of King Henry VIII. It is said she wore a ruby that lost its deep radiance and turned dull the day before her husband announced he was divorcing her. Aside from legends and fictional characters all the historical references in this book are factual, including Katharine herself.
