The decision of this estimate of Swedenborg and Swedenborgians by some one who, to all appearance, knows little of either, would be amusing, were it not so seriously calculated to mislead. When one reads the crnde jndgments arrived at by the press on Swedenborg, one is compelled to cantion in listening to the same wise press discoursing on other subjects on which we credulously suppose it is well informed. The "Reasoner" of 2 March contains a notice of the same work. It says, "An elaborate life of Swedenborg, at one shilling, has been written and published by Mr W. White. We should like to know why all New Church works are printed in small type. Numbers of people will be obliged to defer reading them till they get to the next world, where vision is to be more perfect. Mr White's ' Swedenborg ' is full of biographical information; but what would have been said if Robert Owen had written ' Conjugial Love, ' which Mr White gently indicates as a ' wondrous book?'" It is not correct to say that all New Church books are printed in small type. We should like Mr Holyoake to explain his insinuation with reference to " Conjugial Love." The " Idler," one of the smartest of the monthly magazines, announces " a masterly review of Swedenborg, his Life and Writings" in the June number. We shall look with much interest for this review. This World but a Preparatory Slate.--Nothing in this world, either in its design, or in its results, is ultimate: all is preliminary and preparatory.
