Book excerpt: Howard of Warwick; the best-seller with sole responsibility for the medieval crime comedy genre. “Like Cadfael meets Clouseau” "very good indeed, brilliant," BBC Now contains added history. Brother Hermitage does worry. Even when there hasn’t been a murder, he worries that there probably has. It can’t do any harm to check, surely? Well, of course, it can. Has the King’s Investigator learned nothing from his previous 23 chronicles? No, of course he hasn’t. When word of death is brought from Derby, Hermitage is concerned this may be more than the usual weekly toll. A simple check should suffice, while a more complex and thorough one would be more satisfying. And this turns up quite a list. The Alodie family, who supposedly succumbed to plague; Maynard the Mighty who sweated to death and old Athlot; a ninety-year-old who fell off his roof. Hm, which one sounds a bit odd? And every good tale deserves a meanwhile… Meanwhile, off in the eastern marshes, a lone escapee from the Norman terror seeks Brother Hermitage with murder in mind. But the journey to Derby will be troublesome, including having to travel with a small band of Norman soldiers. But remember, in 1066 not all Normans took those first boats to Hastings. Some stayed behind to guard the territory. Others ensured that the land continued to flourish. Still more were too old or infirm to partake in the great adventure; And then one or two were simply best kept away from anything sharp. And everything is converging on the King’s Investigator. 5* If you've not read any of them then do yourself a favour and start right away… 5* This series, and Howard of Warwick’s books about what ‘really’ happened at Hastings in 1066, are hilarious 5* Such a good writer, it's a whole new slant on medieval mystery. The truth is out there, sort of! 5* History at its most hilarious

Book Synopsis The Investigator and The Case Of The Missing Brain by : Alberto Catellani

Download or read book The Investigator and The Case Of The Missing Brain written by Alberto Catellani. This book was released on 2019-01-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If one could murder sanity, then the Investigator would be the prime suspect. He walked without a care in the world. Nobody who knew him would question him, and those who didn't know the man generally learned his quirks in time to avoid meeting a gory end. As Lyara hurried behind The Investigator, she reckoned it could have been worse. The Investigator simply was the prime force to reckon with in Cloatos, and that was while considering the ancient evils that lurked beneath the depths of the city, the primeval plagues that scoured the living, the poisonous insects and plants, the diseased minds of psychopaths and much more. The Investigator didn't bleed like normal men. He didn't feel pain. He didn't suffer. He was an Unnatural, and his favorite food was despair. The Investigator and The Case of the Missing Brain is a dark humor, urban fantasy filled adventure that is set into a grim looking penal colony for the wicked known as Cloatos, ruled by the law of survival of the smartest and deep underground, where magics both ancient and powerful keep those who enter inside, and prevent any escape.. Lyara is a cynical, hard-nosed girl scraping barely by, and with all the bad luck of the world on her shoulders, for she has caught the Investigator's interest, and that is never a good thing. With venom and sarcasm dripping from her every word, even scenes of uncommon horror hardly faze her. The Investigator is a witty psychopath with a penchant for sadism, but a monster has to eat, and he feeds on despair. His hobby of solving troubles in the underground colony stem from a mere desire to stave off his boredom as he plans his great escape from the inescapable prison, and no proper Investigator would work without an assistant. Never mind the gruesome ends his assistants always end up in. "An interesting story, with proper servings of despair and horror (as expected from Sir Shadenight). Very gritty. And then you introduce the Investigator. Hoo boy. Even among the rest of them, his affable evil and casual violation of her personal freedom and identity really stands out and makes the character's suffering that much more real." -Unelemental "Cloatos: Very interesting dynamics, very interesting world building. The Unnaturals the small things the monsters, it is great. Basileus: Very well crafted monster. When he plays around: terrifying. When he stops playing around: intriguing." -Ian Drash "It's gorgeous. I like Basileus and his blatant psychopathy and sadism the most." -Alphaleph

It has been called the political crime of the century: a foreign government, led by a brutal authoritarian leader, secretly interfering with the American presidential election to help elect the candidate of its choice. Now two-time Pulitzer Prize–winning Washington Post national security reporter Greg Miller investigates the truth about the Kremlin’s covert attempt to destroy Hillary Clinton and help Donald Trump win the presidency, Trump’s steadfast allegiance to Vladimir Putin, and Robert Mueller’s ensuing investigation of the president and those close to him. Based on interviews with hundreds of people in Trump’s inner circle, current and former government officials, individuals with close ties to the White House, members of the law enforcement and intelligence communities, foreign officials, and confidential documents, The Apprentice offers striking new information about: the hacking of the Democrats by Russian intelligence; Russian hijacking of Facebook and Twitter; National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s hidden communications with the Russians; the attempt by Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, to create a secret back channel to Moscow using Russian diplomatic facilities; Trump’s disclosure to Russian officials of highly classified information about Israeli intelligence operations; Trump’s battles with the CIA and the FBI and fierce clashes within the West Wing; Trump’s efforts to enlist the director of national intelligence and the director of the National Security Agency to push back against the FBI’s investigation of his campaign; the mysterious Trump Tower meeting; the firing of FBI Director James Comey; the appointment of Mueller and the investigation that has followed; the tumultuous skirmishing within Trump’s legal camp; and Trump’s jaw-dropping behavior in Helsinki. Book Synopsis Detective's Apprentice by : Dewey Richards

Download or read book Detective's Apprentice written by Dewey Richards. This book was released on 2003-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why did I write this book? The answer is quite simple really. I want your life to be inspired and changed as mine has been. A year before my life was turned upside down, I began praying to God asking him to show me some work that would make a real difference in the world. I managed to set aside fifteen minutes early each morning to be still and quiet, just listening for guidance and direction. I was nearing the end of raising the last of our five children. I was ready to open a new door and focus on a larger family now. I wasn't sure God was hearing my plea, but I remained faithful in my endeavor to listen until he was ready to reveal his plan to me. I was assured of his sense of humor when the answers started coming in the unlikely form of wheelchairs! My nephew Paul is married to a beautiful gal who is a wheelchair user. Mary Lou broke her neck in a tragic snowmobile accident at the age of twenty-one. They asked if I would look into collecting good usable wheelchairs in the Metro Detroit area to be gifted to needy people around the world. How difficult could this be? I said Yes, and decided from the beginning that I would involve every religious denomination, every race, and every background in this most worthy volunteer project. The stories and circumstances that follow are more than mere coincidences. They are examples of God's plan being unfolded in miraculous ways. "For having walked here once we remain forever!"
