Book Synopsis Bioinorganic Chemistry of Copper by : K.D. Karlin

Download or read book Bioinorganic Chemistry of Copper written by K.D. Karlin. This book was released on 2012-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioinorganic Chemistry of Copper focuses on the vital role of copper ions in biology, especially as an essential metalloenzyme cofactor. The book is highly interdisciplinary in its approach--the outstanding list of contributors includes coordination chemists, biochemists, biophysicists, and molecular biologists. Chapters are grouped into major areas of research interest in inorganic copper chemistry, spectroscopy, oxygen chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology. The book also discusses basic research of great potential importance to pharmaceutical scientists. This book is based on the first Johns Hopkins University Copper Symposium, held in August 1992. Researchers in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and medicinal chemistry will find it to be an essential reference on its subject.

Book Synopsis Copper Bioinorganic Chemistry: From Health To Bioinspired Catalysis by : Jalila Simaan

Download or read book Copper Bioinorganic Chemistry: From Health To Bioinspired Catalysis written by Jalila Simaan. This book was released on 2023-07-26. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioinorganic chemistry is an interdisciplinary research field which centers on metals in biology. Over the past few decades, advances in chemistry, biology as well as in spectroscopic methods have shed light on the role of copper in human pathologies and allowed the growing discovery of copper-containing biological systems. Following this trend, much effort is being constantly chanelled towards understanding these fundamental biological processes or enzymes. In addition, chemists are developing molecules to target copper or copper enzymes as therapeutic tools. On the other hand, inspired by the function of biological systems, small molecular weight complexes inspired by the active site of copper enzymes are being prepared and studied. These bioinspired complexes can function both as mechanistic tools and as functional catalysts for oxidative transformations. The seven chapters in this book, contributed by internationally recognized authors cover recent developments on these aspects illustrated by interdisciplinary fields from biology, chemistry, spectroscopy to bioinspired catalysis. It contains aspects ranging from human health issues (copper homeostasis in bacteria and the development of molecules as anticancer or antibacterial agents) to bioinspired catalysis.

Book Synopsis The Chemistry of Copper, Silver and Gold by : A. G. Massey

Download or read book The Chemistry of Copper, Silver and Gold written by A. G. Massey. This book was released on 2017-01-31. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Copper, Silver and Gold deals with the chemistry of copper, silver, and gold and covers topics ranging from the occurrence and metallurgy of copper to copper compounds and compounds containing copper-metal bonds, compounds of silver, and gold alloys. Hydrides and halides, cyanides and oxides, hydroxides and oxyacids, and thiocyanates and selenocyanates are also discussed. This volume is comprised of three chapters and opens with a brief history of copper, along with its occurrence and metallurgy, analysis, and compounds. The next chapter is devoted to silver and its compounds, while the last chapter describes gold, its isotopes and alloys, chemistry, and gold hydrides and halides, cyanides and oxides, hydroxides and oxyacids. Gold sulfides, selenides and tellurides, and nitrates are also considered, along with nitrides, azides, phosphides, and arsenides; and thiosulfates, selenates, selenites, thiocyanates, and selenocyanates. The final sections look at gold complexes and the organometallic and analytical chemistry of gold. This book will be a valuable source of information for inorganic chemists.

Book Synopsis Steric Control in Copper(I) Thioether Coordination Chemistry by : Keily Heredia

Download or read book Steric Control in Copper(I) Thioether Coordination Chemistry written by Keily Heredia. This book was released on 2006. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tetradentate thioether Si(CH[subscript]2SBu[superscript]t)[subscript]4 was used to synthesize the complete series of copper(I) complexes Cu[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SBu[superscript]t)[subscript]4X[subscript]2 (X = C1, Br, I). Interestingly, a single X-ray diffraction study of the chloro derivative revealed the presence of both four-coordinate tetrahedral and three-coordinate trigonal planar copper centers. The adamantyl-substituted dithioether Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SAd)[subscript]2 has been readily synthesized and it is the first member of the Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SR)[subscript]2 (R = alkyl, aryl) family of ligands to be structurally characterized. Reactivity studies towards monovalent coinage metal ions have produced simple 1:1 and 1:2 complexes {Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SAd)[subscript]2}CuX (X = C1, Br, I), and [Cu{Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SAd)[subscript]2}[subscript]2]PF[subscript]6. Significantly, the bulky substituents on the thioether preclude the generation of polymeric species such as those isolated for R = Me and result instead in the formation of rare examples of three-coordinate trigonal planar Cu(I) thioether complexes. Furthermore, these are the first such complexes exhibiting [CuS[subscript]2X] coordination spheres. In a similar vein, the dinuclear gold complexes Au[subscript]2{Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SAd)[subscript]2}X[subscript]2 (X = C1, Br), each of which displays a fairly strong intramolecular Au...Au aurophilic interaction, are obtained instead of the polymeric species isolated for closely related but less sterically demanding thioether ligands [e.g., Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SMe)[subscript]2]. The new complexes have been characterized by a variety of analytical and spectroscopic techniques, including electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (ESIMS). An overview of the coordination chemistry of Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SAd)[subscript]2 towards other transition metal ions such as Ag(I), Cd(II) and Hg(II) will be also discussed.
