Book Synopsis The Hostile Mind: The Sources And Consequences Of Rage And Hate by : Leon Joseph Saul

Download or read book The Hostile Mind: The Sources And Consequences Of Rage And Hate written by Leon Joseph Saul. This book was released on 2015-11-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE PURPOSE of this book is to provide some basic psychiatric information about human hostility. It is also a call to the relevant sciences and to intelligent men and women everywhere to turn their attention to the world’s most important and urgent danger: man’s hostility to man, in the hope of helping to handle, control and alleviate the great suffering it creates. As this is written, the newspapers report that plans for a rocket trip to the moon are being discussed, that a scientist has devised a reasonable and practical way to travel to Mars and back. What was unthinkable yesterday becomes tomorrow’s reality. The fact that great strides are daily being made in the understanding of human nature rarely makes headlines. But it is true that the dream of man maturing fully, living peacefully with his fellow men, and achieving his real nature of goodness and strength is now as much within our reach theoretically as is the dream of space travel. What makes criminals and great men, what makes the loftiest achievements of the human spirit and what makes the destruction, chaos and unutterable bestiality and misery of war—this is now known. To apply such knowledge is a vast and enormously difficult task in human engineering, but it is only a practical task. To show that this is so and to focus attention upon it is the goal of this book.

Book Synopsis Psychotherapy for a Democratic Mind by : Israel W. Charny

Download or read book Psychotherapy for a Democratic Mind written by Israel W. Charny. This book was released on 2018-01-19. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychotherapy for a Democratic Mind proposes that the optimal goal of psychotherapy lies in cultivating a free mind with integrity that will not seek to do major harm to one’s life or to the lives of others. This book looks at a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including classic conditions of neurosis, personality disorders and psychoses, through a different lens. Rather than simply enumerating symptoms, namely, how a person is addressing the opportunity of his/her life and the lives of others and whether a person is doing harm to themselves and/or others. This book proceeds to grapple with several critical life experiences and styles: tragedy, violence and evil, all of which often have posed insurmountable problems in therapy.

Book Synopsis Working with Anger by : Peter Cummins

Download or read book Working with Anger written by Peter Cummins. This book was released on 2006-06-14. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Client anger is a perennial problem for a range of professionals working in clinical settings. Working with Anger presents an alternative strategy to the most common approach, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), exploring instead how anger can be tackled from a personal constructivist perspective. It provides a conceptual framework and practical advice on the clinical issues of working with anger, including case study examples, service user perspective, a philosophical and developmental underpinning, and suggested ways of preventing anger development. Ways of working with anger are illustrated, including: * Group-based treatments * Individual treatment * Working with adults * Working with children and adolescents * Working with families * Gender and anger * Methods of evaluating anger programmes This practical volume will enable clinicians to set up, run and evaluate their own anger programmes using the constructivist approach. It will therefore be a valuable resource for professionals such as clinical and forensic psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, nurses and social workers.
