Book Synopsis The Economics of Export Embargoes by : Per Lundborg

Download or read book The Economics of Export Embargoes written by Per Lundborg. This book was released on 2017-10-10. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Export embargoes are imposed in the belief that enough economic damage will be inflicted on the target country to make it change course on some key political point. However, export embargoes also have economic consequences for producers in the country which imposes the embargo and for producers in third party countries. This book, first published in 1987, analyses the economic effects of export embargoes. It presents much general analysis on the topic and goes on, making use of a model, to examine in detail the 1980 US embargo on grain sales to the Soviet Union. Among the book’s findings is the importance of expectations concerning how long the embargo will last in determining both the success of the embargo and the impact on produces in the country imposing the embargo.

Book Synopsis Trade Embargoes by : iMinds

Download or read book Trade Embargoes written by iMinds. This book was released on 2014-05-14. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn about Trade Embargoes with iMinds Money's insightful fast knowledge series. Trade embargoes are a form of economic sanction that can be used against another nation. A trade embargo restricts trade with a nation. This may involve banning the import and export of only a few goods, such as armaments, or may encompass a wider range of goods. Embargoes are usually employed to apply pressure to a nation that has or will engage in actions undesirable to the body applying the sanction. Simply put, they are an economic means of applying political pressure. They are a common method for forwarding foreign policy and for enforcing international law. When applied as such, they are often the first sanction applied against an offending nation where subsequent sanctions may lead towards physical conflict. Embargoes and other economic sanctions have been used throughout history to varying degrees. During the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century, France embargoed most European trade with Britain. During this time, America also embargoed trade with both England and France after these nations attempted to prevent America's trade with the other. The American Embargo Act of 1807, however, was more damaging to America's own economy. It was lifted and eventually replaced with a trade embargo on England alone. This precipitated the War of 1812 between America and England. iMinds will hone your financial knowledge with its insightful series looking at topics related to Money, Investment and Finance.. whether an amateur or specialist in the field, iMinds targeted fast knowledge series will whet your mental appetite and broaden your mind. iMinds unique fast-learning modules as seen in the Financial Times, Wired, Vogue, Robb Report, Sky News, LA Times, Mashable and many others.. the future of general knowledge acquisition.

Download or read book U.S. Export Controls and Economic Sanctions written by Eric L. Hirschhorn. This book was released on 2021-03-31. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a must for those who deal with United States government export control and economic sanctions regulations. Written as a user's manual rather than an academic or historical treatise, it covers in considerable detail - but in language that is intelligible to non-lawyers as well as lawyers - the Commerce Department's controls on: exports of commercial; 'dual-use' (having both commercial and military utility) and low-level military items; the State Department's controls on higher-level military items; the Treasury Department's approximately thirty different economic sanctions programs; the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's controls on nuclear-related commodities; and the Energy Department's restrictions on assistance to foreign nuclear programs. Given the authors' decades of experience with these regulations, the book not only explains the legal rules but also offers advice - not necessarily reflected in the regulations themselves - about how to interpret the regulations and deal with the regulators.
