Book Synopsis Measuring and Visualizing Learning in the Information-Rich Classroom by : Peter Reimann

Download or read book Measuring and Visualizing Learning in the Information-Rich Classroom written by Peter Reimann. This book was released on 2015-11-19. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated information systems are increasingly used in schools, and the advent of the technology-rich classroom requires a new degree of ongoing classroom assessment. Able to track web searches, resources used, task completion time, and a variety of other classroom behaviors, technology-rich classrooms offer a wealth of potential information about teaching and learning. This information can be used to track student progress in languages, STEM, and in 21st Century skills, for instance. However, despite these changes, there has been little change in the kind of data made available to teachers, administrators, students, and parents. Measuring and Visualizing Learning in the Information-Rich Classroom collects research on the implementation of classroom assessment techniques in technology-enhanced learning environments. Building on research conducted by a multinational and multidisciplinary team of learning technology experts, and specialists from around the globe, this book addresses these discrepancies. With contributions from major researchers in education technology, testing and assessment, and education psychology, this book contributes to a holistic approach for building the information infrastructure of the 21st Century school.

Book Synopsis Multifaceted Analysis of Sustainable Strategies and Tactics in Education by : Neimann, Theresa Dell

Download or read book Multifaceted Analysis of Sustainable Strategies and Tactics in Education written by Neimann, Theresa Dell. This book was released on 2023-06-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A multifaceted approach will be needed to fix the often-unsustainable challenges faced in the 21st-century academic arena. The trends in public and private institutions of education are more cutbacks, downsizing, mergers, sequestrations, lean process implementations, and the increase in hiring part-time workers over full-time workers. At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it an array of schooling challenges around organizational change. Some challenges are structural, some are political, some are human resources related, and yet others are symbolic. To fix these problems, there is a need to address a core issue: increasing student engagement. This requires a wholesale rethinking of what schooling can be. Multifaceted Analysis of Sustainable Strategies and Tactics in Education brings increased awareness to students seeking education and faculty navigating the politics regarding the challenges they face, awareness of the disempowered voices found in the halls of these institutions, and light to the challenges facing administration in education. Covering topics such as parental involvement, work-based learning, and academic success, this premier reference source is an essential resource for educators and administrators of both K-12 and higher education, pre-service teachers, teacher educators, government officials, librarians, researchers, and academicians.

Book excerpt: Signs of Change: Assessment Past, Present and Future Another Time, Another Place...Examinations Then and Now In the Temple of Literature in Hanoi, Vietnam, a series of stone stelae records the names of the handful of illustrious examination candidates who, in each century, passed the national examination to become a Doctor of Literature. Beginning in the 11thcentury,theexamswereconductedpersonallybysuccessivekingswhopursued Confucian ideals that found expression in the enormous value placed on the pursuit of wisdom and learning. In the 21st century we are both puzzled and impressed by this tradition. Puzzled by such an explicit commitment to a meritocracy in an essentially feudal society; impressed by this enthusiasm for learning and the pursuit of wisdom at the highest level of society. Yet, there are also important similarities between the 11th and 21st centuries. Then, as now, assessment was associated with excellence, high standards, pr- tige and competition—success for the chosen few; disappointment for the majority. Then, as now, the pursuit of excellence was embedded in a social context that favoured the elite and determined success in terms of the predilections of the p- erful. Then, as now, the purpose of the assessment, the way it was conducted and its impact on society all re ected the social and economic priorities of the day.
