Book excerpt: Chuck Bennett discovers from an old family bible that many years ago a man from Missouri cached his diamonds somewhere in the area of Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. When news gets out about the discovery, so-called descendants of the man are eager to question Chuck and his friend and make off with the loot. The boys manage to foil all of these would-be heirs and ultimately put their discovery to good use. The recurrent themes of the books in the Wilderness Mystery Series are natural phenomena—caves, canyons, mountains, sand dunes, and forests—and a sense of the past as seen through archaeology. In many of the narratives, events of long ago are seen to have left traces of their passing. Notwithstanding the fact that the books were written in the 1950s, the progressive Franklin Folsom (alias Troy Nesbit) had refreshing views of women, Native Americans, and the environment, and he was prescient in having his characters often oppose corporate and government efforts to develop wilderness areas.

Book excerpt: Another delightful installment in the internationally acclaimed series: It's spring in St. Denis. The village choir is preparing for its Easter concert, the wildflowers are blooming, and among the lazy whorls of the river a dead woman is found floating in a boat. This means another case for Bruno, the town’s cherished chief of police. With the discovery of sinister markings and black candles near the body, it seems to Bruno that the occult might be involved. And as questions mount—most notably about a troubling real estate proposal in the region and the sudden reappearance of an elderly countess—Bruno and his colleagues are drawn ever closer to a climactic showdown in the Gouffre de Colombac: the place locals call the Devil’s Cave.

Download or read book Diamond Heart: Inexhaustible Mystery written by A. H. Almaas. This book was released on 2011-07-12. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The final volume in A. H. Almaas' masterwork on the contemporary spiritual path known as the Diamond Approach From one perspective, we can see ourselves merely as human beings struggling in a crowded and chaotic world of suffering. Inexhaustible Mystery opens our eyes to a different reality, one that turns our familiar world inside out. We need only explore—with curiosity and love—our true potential as human beings in order to discover infinite depth and creativity in our lives as we act and interact in the world. When time and space expand their meaning, we come to know ourselves as having infinite dimensions of being and qualities of spirit, and uncover new mysteries about ourselves, one another, and the reality we live in. This is the last of the five-volume Diamond Heart series of transcribed and edited talks given by A. H. Almaas to inner-work groups in California and Colorado.
