State regulation of dentistry was more advanced in Europe than in America, and this book discusses the various laws and regulations on the practice of dentistry. Court cases are reported upon for the information of dentists practising in the corresponding jurisdictions. The Dental Record is not limited to human dentistry, with papers from veterinarians regarding animal dentistry also included in the book. The Dental Record is more science and research oriented than its American cousin, The Archives of Dentistry, the latter of which is more like an almanac than scholarly journal. Still, readers of The Dental Record can expect to gain a thorough understanding of the science underlying the practice of dentistry in Europe in the late 19th Century.
