Book excerpt: This book, The Current Perspectives on Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, is an excellent update for health care professionals taking care of patients suffering from severe coronary artery disease. The nine chapters in this book were written by experts in their fields. The first section describes the hemodynamic mechanism and medical management of coronary artery disease. The second section describes the most recent evidence and controversial topics in the field of coronary artery bypass grafting. I believe this book will serve the interests of readers.

Book Synopsis Gender and Recovery from Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery by : Friederike Kendel

Download or read book Gender and Recovery from Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery written by Friederike Kendel. This book was released on 2009-01-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in coronary artery bypass graft surgery has irrefutably improved the quality of life of many patients. However, we are confronted with the finding that women - hibit a higher mortality rate than men. In part, this difference can be explained by clinical parameters such as age, disease severity, or comorbidity – factors that have been well studied, but which do not fully explain the observed differences. This is one reason why, in recent years, psychosocial variables have attracted special atten- on in this context. In fact, women and men having undergone a bypass operation - ry a great deal with respect to, e. g. , depression, partner status, and socio-economic status. Moreover, psychological well-being, on the one hand, and social isolation, on the other hand, definitely influence the recovery process, particularly when consi- red under the gender aspect. The Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin has been actively supporting gender-specific research for many years. In this context, a large prospective study on gender dif- rences in recovery after bypass surgery, carried out by the Competence Network of Heart Failure, was started at our Department for Cardiothoracic and Vascular Sur- ry. From the beginning of the study, psychosocial variables were included as being substantial contributors. The starting point of the study presented here* by psychologist Dr. Friederike Kendel are recent empirical investigations about gender differences in coronary heart disease and the course of recovery after bypass surgery.

Download or read book Coronary Graft Failure written by Ion C. Ţintoiu. This book was released on 2016-03-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coronary artery bypass surgery has been developed since 1960s to overcome proximal coronary artery disease. Worldwide, the number of patients that are undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery is steadily increasing. Depending on diverse risk factors, one fifth of grafts are occluded at 1 year. For the remaining, graft patency last usually 8–15 years. This book brings together the main specialists in the field to review the current evidence on epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnostic, new imaging techniques and specific therapeutic modalities. This volume aims to update a complex subject represented by coronary graft failure. The authors of this monograph are interventional cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and research scientists, who will be creating four parts and 71 chapters that are divided in order to give a uniform interpretation of this condition including all aspects of coronary graft failure This book not only provides the most up-to-dated scientific evidence in the field but in a two-step manner. Each chapter is divided into a at a glance part that reflects the basic evidence on the topic, and a “full picture” part that brings all what the advanced reader should be brought with.

Download or read book Technical Aspects of Modern Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery written by Mario Gaudino. This book was released on 2020-11-08. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coronary surgery encompasses two thirds of all adult cardiac surgery cases. With the endless pursuit of better outcomes, modern coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) has become technically more complex in ways that are well beyond the training of the average cardiac surgeon. The old concept of "one-technique-fits-all" has been abandoned in favour of a specialized approach tailored to the individual patient. In fact, in recent years, there is a growing movement towards establishing coronary surgery as a super-specialization of cardiac surgery. Technical Aspects of Modern Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery aims to expand on both the basics and complexities of the technical aspects of coronary surgery. It serves as an up to date resource that illustrates and details the advancement and techniques in this field which may soon become a separate super-specialty. With a particular emphasis on illustrations, the book will be an essential reference book for both established surgeons that have no experience in advanced CABG, and the new generation of CABG surgeons. - A complete and concise resource on all aspects of coronary surgery - In-depth illustrative review of various coronary techniques - Covers both current recommendations and well-established practices in the field

Download or read book Current Perspectives of the Extracorporeal Circulation written by D. Baykut. This book was released on 2012-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid technical improvement of the extracorporeal circulation in the past decades has led to safer, more comfortable and more compatible operations in cardiac surgery and interventions which used to be an adventure are now routine practice. Although most technical variables can easily be accommo dated today, the physical influence of artificial circulation systems on blood and tissue still remains uncertain in many cases. One of our main observations in the use of the extracorporeal circulation is that the prolonged interaction with unphysiological surfaces and forces of ten releases a cascade of blood and tissue reactions, resulting in a complex type of "disease". Thus, the symptoms can range from unspecific pulmonary inflammations to a severe renal failure or from coagulation problems to a heavy cerebrovascular stroke. Based on these facts, an interdisciplinary workshop named "Current Per spectives of the Extracorporeal Circulation" took place in Duisburg, Ger many on March 26, 1999. The rationale behind the word "interdisciplinary" was to make a step for ward to establish a joint field of knowledge which would be capable of link ing the experiences and transfer the know-how of various specialists like car diac surgeons, neurologists, physiologists or the healthcare industry with their contributions to this essential topic from different perspectives.
