Book Synopsis The Cluster Active Archive by : Harri Laakso

Download or read book The Cluster Active Archive written by Harri Laakso. This book was released on 2009-12-04. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the year 2000 the ESA Cluster mission has been investigating the small-scale structures and processes of the Earth's plasma environment, such as those involved in the interaction between the solar wind and the magnetospheric plasma, in global magnetotail dynamics, in cross-tail currents, and in the formation and dynamics of the neutral line and of plasmoids. This book contains presentations made at the 15th Cluster workshop held in March 2008. It also presents several articles about the Cluster Active Archive and its datasets, a few overview papers on the Cluster mission, and articles reporting on scientific findings on the solar wind, the magnetosheath, the magnetopause and the magnetotail.

Book Synopsis Multiscale Processes in the Earth's Magnetosphere: From Interball to Cluster by : Jean-Andre Sauvaud

Download or read book Multiscale Processes in the Earth's Magnetosphere: From Interball to Cluster written by Jean-Andre Sauvaud. This book was released on 2006-05-07. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past forty years of space research have seen a substantial improvement in our understanding of the Earth’s magnetosphere and its coupling with the solar wind and interplanetary magnetic ?eld (IMF). The magnetospheric str- ture has been mapped and major processes determining this structure have been de?ned. However, the picture obtained is too often static. We know how the magnetosphere forms via the interaction of the solar wind and IMF with the Earth’s magnetic ?eld. We can describe the steady state for various upstream conditions but do not really understand the dynamic processes leading from one state to another. The main dif?culty is that the magnetosphere is a comp- cated system with many time constants ranging from fractions of a second to days and the system rarely attains a steady state. Two decades ago, it became clear that further progress would require multi-point measurements. Since then, two multi-spacecraft missions have been launched — INTERBALL in 1995/96 and CLUSTER II in 2000. The objectives of these missions d- fered but were complementary: While CLUSTER is adapted to meso-scale processes, INTERBALL observed larger spatial and temporal scales. However, the number of papers taking advantage of both missions simul- neously is rather small.

Book Synopsis Dayside Magnetosphere Interactions by : Qiugang Zong

Download or read book Dayside Magnetosphere Interactions written by Qiugang Zong. This book was released on 2020-03-13. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring the processes and phenomena of Earth’s dayside magnetosphere Energy and momentum transfer, initially taking place at the dayside magnetopause, is responsible for a variety of phenomenon that we can measure on the ground. Data obtained from observations of Earth’s dayside magnetosphere increases our knowledge of the processes by which solar wind mass, momentum, and energy enter the magnetosphere. Dayside Magnetosphere Interactions outlines the physics and processes of dayside magnetospheric phenomena, the role of solar wind in generating ultra-low frequency waves, and solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling. Volume highlights include: Phenomena across different temporal and spatial scales Discussions on dayside aurora, plume dynamics, and related dayside reconnection Results from spacecraft observations, ground-based observations, and simulations Discoveries from the Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission and Van Allen Probes era Exploration of foreshock, bow shock, magnetosheath, magnetopause, and cusps Examination of similar processes occurring around other planets The American Geophysical Union promotes discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity. Its publications disseminate scientific knowledge and provide resources for researchers, students, and professionals.

Book Synopsis IBM Spectrum Archive Enterprise Edition V1.2.6 Installation and Configuration Guide by : Larry Coyne

Download or read book IBM Spectrum Archive Enterprise Edition V1.2.6 Installation and Configuration Guide written by Larry Coyne. This book was released on 2019-04-19. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Note: This is a republication of IBM Spectrum Archive Enterprise Edition V1.2.6: Installation and Configuration Guide with new book number SG24-8445 to keep the content available on the Internet along with the recent publication IBM Spectrum Archive Enterprise Edition V1.3.0: Installation and Configuration Guide, SG24-8333. This IBM® Redbooks® publication helps you with the planning, installation, and configuration of the new IBM SpectrumTM Archive V1.2.6 for the IBM TS3310, IBM TS3500, IBM TS4300, and IBM TS4500 tape libraries. IBM Spectrum ArchiveTM EE enables the use of the LTFS for the policy management of tape as a storage tier in an IBM Spectrum ScaleTM based environment. It helps encourage the use of tape as a critical tier in the storage environment. This is the sixth edition of IBM Spectrum Archive Installation and Configuration Guide. IBM Spectrum Archive EE can run any application that is designed for disk files on a physical tape media. IBM Spectrum Archive EE supports the IBM Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Ultrium 8, 7, 6, and 5 tape drives in IBM TS3310, TS3500, TS4300, and TS4500 tape libraries. In addition, IBM TS1155, TS1150, and TS1140 tape drives are supported in TS3500 and TS4500 tape library configurations. IBM Spectrum Archive EE can play a major role in reducing the cost of storage for data that does not need the access performance of primary disk. The use of IBM Spectrum Archive EE to replace disks with physical tape in tier 2 and tier 3 storage can improve data access over other storage solutions because it improves efficiency and streamlines management for files on tape. IBM Spectrum Archive EE simplifies the use of tape by making it transparent to the user and manageable by the administrator under a single infrastructure. This publication is intended for anyone who wants to understand more about IBM Spectrum Archive EE planning and implementation. This book is suitable for IBM clients, IBM Business Partners, IBM specialist sales representatives, and technical specialists.
