Book Synopsis Diagnosis and Management of Lameness in the Horse - E-Book by : Michael W. Ross

Download or read book Diagnosis and Management of Lameness in the Horse - E-Book written by Michael W. Ross. This book was released on 2010-11-11. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering many different diagnostic tools, this essential resource explores both traditional treatments and alternative therapies for conditions that can cause gait abnormalities in horses. Broader in scope than any other book of its kind, this edition describes equine sporting activities and specific lameness conditions in major sport horse types, and includes up-to-date information on all imaging modalities. This title includes additional digital media when purchased in print format. For this digital book edition, media content may not be included. Cutting-edge information on diagnostic application for computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging includes the most comprehensive section available on MRI in the live horse. Coverage of traditional treatment modalities also includes many aspects of alternative therapy, with a practical and realistic perspective on prognosis. An examination of the various types of horses used in sports describes the lameness conditions to which each horse type is particularly prone, as well as differences in prognosis. Guidelines on how to proceed when a diagnosis cannot easily be reached help you manage conditions when faced with the limitations of current diagnostic capabilities. Clinical examination and diagnostic analgesia are given a special emphasis. Practical, hands-on information covers a wide range of horse types from around the world. A global perspective is provided by a team of international authors, editors, and contributors. A full-color insert shows thermography images. Updated chapters include the most current information on topics such as MRI, foot pain, stem cell therapy, and shock wave treatment. Two new chapters include The Biomechanics of the Equine Limb and its Effect on Lameness and Clinical Use of Stem Cells, Marrow Components, and Other Growth Factors. The chapter on the hock has been expanded substantially, and the section on lameness associated with the foot has been completely rewritten to include state-of-the-art information based on what has been learned from MRI. Many new figures appear throughout the book.

Book Synopsis The Clinical Diagnosis of Lameness in the Horse (Classic Reprint) by : W. E. A. Wyman

Download or read book The Clinical Diagnosis of Lameness in the Horse (Classic Reprint) written by W. E. A. Wyman. This book was released on 2015-07-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Clinical Diagnosis of Lameness in the Horse The total absence in the English language of a work on the Clinical Diagnosis of Lameness in the Horse, induced me to gather material from all obtainable works, American English, and especially German, to supplement my lectures; this little work therefore is primarily a compilation. The treatment of this subject is so scattered and not fully discussed in any particular work on Surgery, that an expensive and voluminous library at once becomes necessary to study this important branch of Surgery. The extreme courtesy of the eminent surgeon, Professor Doctor H. Moller, Berlin, Germany, has made it possible for me to issue this contribution toward Veterinary Surgery, since he most kindly permitted me to use his various excellent works. This little effort is a resume, embodying mainly the teachings of Professor Doctor Moller, arranged, as I hope, in a practical manner. To the different chapters, short anatomical sketches and drawings, as well as important anatomo-physiological laws, have been added. This compendium is chiefly intended for the student, to give him a concise treatise on the symptoms accompanying the various forms of lameness, the differential diagnosis wherever an error is liable to be made, and recognized practical methods of examination to aid him in the detection of the seat of the lameness. The practitioner may possibly find some points of interest in this little work in his moments of leisure.
