Book Synopsis The Ancestral Rocky Mountains of Utah by : William a Szary

Download or read book The Ancestral Rocky Mountains of Utah written by William a Szary. This book was released on 2020-11-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ancestral Rocky Mountain impacts in Colorado extended into eastern Utah through the same uplift and basins present in Colorado. These uplifts and basins extended across state lines into eastern Utah, consisting of the Uinta aulacogen-Doughnut Trough, Oquirrh Basin, Yampa Plateau, San Rafael Swell, Paradox Basin, Wendover highland, and the Uncompahgre uplift (now buried under younger sediments). The Zuni-Defiant uplift in the southeastern part of Utah also occurred during Ancestral Rocky Mountain time. Discussion of the Uncompahgre was omitted from the Colorado book but is expanded on in this book for both Colorado and Utah segments. The Ancestral Rocky Mountains of Utah supplements the discussion provided in the Ancestral Rocky Mountains of Colorado due to many of the features presented in Colorado which are expressed in eastern Utah.Chapter 1 begins the discussion with the tectonic setting and geologic setting presenting the basement framework, fault rejuvenation, Ancestral Rockies uplift, Uncompahgre-San Luis uplift, Front Range-Wet Mountains uplifts, Paradox Basin, Eagle Evaporite Basin, and the demise of the Ancestral Rocky Mountains. Chapter 2 details the Uncompahgre uplift in Utah but includes discussions of the Colorado segment. The Emery uplift is also presented. Chapter 3 discusses the Ancestral Rockies in the context of load induced subsidence continuing with details on the Early to Late Paleozoic geologic setting, and the Permian history of the core ARM. Geophysical evidence for a crustal load beneath the core ARM is part of the presentation. Chapter 4 explores the paleogeography of the Uinta-Piceance Basin. Chapter 5 explores the Uinta Basin. Chapter 6 closes out with the facies architecture of the Paradox Basin and its stratigraphy.

Download or read book The Ancestral Rocky Mountains of Colorado written by William a Szary. This book was released on 2020-10-03. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ancestral Rocky Mountain system covered the entire current Rocky Mountain Range in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and Idaho. This presentation focuses on evidence of uplifts and basins within the Colorado portion of the Ancestral Rocky Mountains. Chapter 1 presents the regional tectonic setting of the Ancestral Rocky Mountains including a brief review of the Ouachita, Antler, and Ancestral Rocky Mountain orogenies before presenting theoretical discussion on subduction flattening theory, the causal mechanisms, and consequences. The chapter continues with the regional geologic history from the Devonian through the Pennsylvanian Period. Chapter 2 discusses the geologic history of Colorado including evidence in Colorado's state park system which displays different formation remnants of sediments shed from the demise of the Ancestral Rockies. Chapter 3 continues with the Central Colorado Trough and the various formations representing erosion of the mountains. Chapter 4 addresses the Eagle Basin Evaporites, The Eagle Valley Formation in a series of section descriptions, Pennsylvanian geologic history, and Pennsylvanian climate in Colorado. Chapter 5 briefly discusses the Apishapa Uplift and Huerfano Park Basin geology. Chapter 6 reviews the Uncompahgre-San Luis Uplift and the Unaweep Canyon. The final Chapter 7 reviews the Paradox Basin formations which represent sediments shed from the rising Uncompahgre highlands.

Download or read book The Ancestral Rocky Mountains of Idaho written by William a Szary. This book was released on 2020-10-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ancestral Rocky Mountains of Idaho was limited to miogeoclinal sedimentation during reactivation of the Antler uplift belt which controlled development of northwestern Ancestral Rocky Mountains uplifts and basins. Three distinct basins developed in Carboniferous and Permian time: The Early and Middle Mississippian Copper Basin in central Idaho, a regional Pennsylvanian to Early Permian Oquirrh-Wood River Basin in central and north central Utah, and Early to Late Permian Phosphoria Basin in eastern Idaho. During basin formation, ocean circulation was restricted by periodically reactivation of the Antler highland.Chapter 1 introduces the tectonic and geologic setting. Chapter 2 presents the Mississippian-Pennsylvanian contact discussion with the paleo-tectonic setting of the Humbolt uplift in Nevada and its relationship to the tectonic influences in Idaho. Underlying, overlying rocks are discussed before addressing the various Pennsylvanian formations present in Idaho. The chapter closes with the depositional history. Chapter 3 offers plate tectonic models for development of the Ancestral Rocky Mountains. Chapter 4 closes the presentation with the Pennsylvanian-Permian Oquirrh-Wood River Basin development and summarizes the Ancestral Rocky Mountain tectonic impacts in Idaho.
