Book Synopsis Polymer and Polymer-Hybrid Nanoparticles by : Stanislav Rangelov

Download or read book Polymer and Polymer-Hybrid Nanoparticles written by Stanislav Rangelov. This book was released on 2013-08-28. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymeric and hybrid nanoparticles have received increased scientific interest in terms of basic research as well as commercial applications, promising a variety of uses for nanostructures in fields including bionanotechnology and medicine. Condensing the relevant research into a comprehensive reference, Polymer and Polymer-Hybrid Nanoparticles: From Synthesis to Biomedical Applications covers an array of topics from synthetic procedures and macromolecular design to possible biomedical applications of nanoparticles and materials based on original and unique polymers. The book presents a well-rounded picture of objects ranging from simple polymeric micelles to complex hybrid polymer-based nanostructures, detailing synthetic procedures, techniques for characterization and analysis, properties, and behavior in selective solvents and dispersions. Each chapter contains background and introductory information, summarizing generalities on the nanosystems being discussed. The chapters also describe representative works of experts and provide in-depth, focused discussions. The authors present current knowledge on the following topics: Designed synthesis of functional polymers Construction of block copolymer micellar and nonmicellar self-assembled structures Construction of organic–organic hybrid nanosized particles Construction of organic–inorganic hybrid nanoparticles and nanoassemblies The final chapter addresses biological applications of polymeric nanoparticles, including delivery of low-molecular-weight drugs, macromolecular drugs, imaging and diagnostics, and photodynamic therapy. Summarizing important developments in the field, the authors condense relevant research into a comprehensive resource.

Book Synopsis Synthesis, Characterization and Application of Hybrid Composites by : Ignazio Blanco

Download or read book Synthesis, Characterization and Application of Hybrid Composites written by Ignazio Blanco. This book was released on 2020-10-19. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymer composites represent the platform materials of the XXI century and are an important slice of the market in the production of modern plastics. Their design is based on adding a second component to the polymer matrix to enhance its properties. Among the various possible composites, organic-inorganic hybrid materials offer advantageous performance relative to either of the non-hybrid counterparts. The dramatic improvement of physical properties, compared with pure materials, in which inorganic particles or nanoparticles are inserted into an organic polymeric matrix, could bridge the gap between ceramics and polymers. We are interested in articles that explore polymer-based hybrid systems. The Special Issue topics include the synthesis and characterization of polymeric hybrid materials-hybrid composites in electronics and energy applications; hybrid composites in space applications; the biomedical application of hybrid polymeric materials.

Book Synopsis Biomedical Inorganic Polymers by : Werner E. G. Müller

Download or read book Biomedical Inorganic Polymers written by Werner E. G. Müller. This book was released on 2014-01-13. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, inorganic polymers have attracted much attention in nano-biomedicine, in particular in the area of regenerative medicine and drug delivery. This growing interest in inorganic polymers has been further accelerated by the development of new synthetic and analytical methods in the field of nanotechnology and nanochemistry. Examples for biomedical inorganic polymers that had been proven to exhibit biomedical effects and/or have been applied in preclinical or clinical trials are polysilicate / silica glass (such as naturally formed “biosilica” and synthetic “bioglass”) and inorganic polyphosphate. Some members of the mentioned biomedical inorganic polymers have already been applied e.g. as “bioglass” for bone repair and bone tissue engineering, or they are used in food processing and in dental care (inorganic polyphosphates). However, there are a number of further biological and medicinal properties of these polymers, which have been elucidated in the last few years but not yet been applied for treatment of humans. In addition to polysilicates and polyphosphate, there are a series of other inorganic polymers including polyarsenate and polyvanadate, whose biological / biomedical properties have been only marginally studied so far. Moreover, the combined application of inorganic polymers and organic polymeric molecules (formation of organic-inorganic hybrid materials) provides a variety of new materials with novel property combinations and diverse applications in nanomedicine. The planned book summarizes the present state of knowledge on a large group of inorganic polymers that had hitherto been mainly considered with regard to their chemistry but not comprehensively reviewed with respect to their potential biomedical applications.
