Book Synopsis Sustainable Design and Construction for Geomaterials and Geostructures by : Behzad Fatahi

Download or read book Sustainable Design and Construction for Geomaterials and Geostructures written by Behzad Fatahi. This book was released on 2018-07-12. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents recent research findings and critically reviews the existing literature related to assessment of geotechnical structures under complex and extreme loading conditions such as cyclic, seismic and blast loads. Special emphasize is given to experimental assessment of behaviors of soils and rocks in tunneling , while advanced numerical modelling techniques are utilized for modelling and accurate predictions in emerging construction projects such as tunneling and embankments. The book is in line with current trends in civil engineering which are moving towards sustainable design and construction addressing the energy and material challenges. Papers were selected from the 5th GeoChina International Conference 2018 – Civil Infrastructures Confronting Severe Weathers and Climate Changes: From Failure to Sustainability, held on July 23 to 25, 2018 in HangZhou, China.

Book Synopsis Sustainable Use of Traditional Geomaterials in Construction Practice by : Richard Přikryl

Download or read book Sustainable Use of Traditional Geomaterials in Construction Practice written by Richard Přikryl. This book was released on 2016. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geomaterials derived from the Earth's crust and used in construction after appropriate processing are among the earliest raw materials exploited, processed and used by humans. Their numerous functional properties include accessibility, workability and serviceability, and these are explored within this volume. In modern society, sustainable use of raw materials, specifically those exploited in large volumes such as geomaterials for construction, raises questions of reducing extraction of primary resources and thus minimizing impacts on natural systems, and also employment of materials and technologies to lower emissions of deleterious substances into the atmosphere. This will be possible only if we fully understand the properties, processing and mode of use of traditional geomaterials. Although most of the papers within this volume were written by geologists, the contributions will also be of interest to those working in cultural heritage, monument conservation, civil engineering and architecture.
