Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sunlit Days The God-idea is deeply rooted in the mind of man, and prayer is as deeply rooted in the spiritual instincts. Yet family devotions have largely gone out of fashion; not, however, because men do not need to pray, nor because they have wholly lost the sense of dependence upon divine aid, but rather because of our more complex modern life. The old hour for family devotions has simply been crowded out. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rays of Sunlight for Dark Days Books of Comfort for Mourners are very numerous. And so common is sorrow in the world, and so various the mould in which human hearts are cast, that there is a demand, less or greater, for every one of them. There may be those to whom this little Volume will come home with more truth and power than some of those which have preceded it in the same endeavour. The effort to console must guard against many things, if it would be effectual. Sorrow is a great test of truth. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Greek Prose Composition Part I contains, in graded lessons, the principal points of Greek syntax, the unusual and non-essential being purposely omitted. These lessons are designed for use at the beginning of the second year's study of Greek, thereby serving as a partial review of the first year's work and as an introduction to the composition work in connection with the reading of Xenophon's Anabasis. Part II contains short, simple English sentences, based on Books I - IV of the Anabasis. These should be used daily in connection with the reading of the text. Part III contains connected English prose, based on Books I - IV of the Anabasis. This is carefully graded, so that the stu dent who performs faithfully the work outlined here will be able to pass the entrance examination of any of the American colleges. The method of writing Greek at sight used in this book needs a word of explanation. It is the outgrowth of the author's personal experience in the classroom, and his belief that the best results can be obtained only by systematic practice in connection with the regular work.
