Download or read book Sulfate Karst of Perm Region (Russia) written by Nikolay Maksimovich. This book was released on 2022-11-14. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a characteristic of sulfate karst, the features of its distribution and development in the Perm region, based on their own research and generalization of data accumulated in recent years. An updated zoning of the territory is given, partly based on the use of GIS technologies. This book also offers a detailed description of areas with characteristics of geological and hydrogeological conditions for the development of karst and karst phenomena. Besides, it also provides a detailed description of a number of caves, information about specially protected natural areas associated with sulfate karst and new unique objects that need protection. The book describes the influence of karst on economic activity and the ecological situation. The publication is intended for geologists, geographers, ecologists, karst scientists, speleologists, local historians, teachers and students of specialties related to earth sciences, as well as a wide range of karst and cave enthusiasts.

Book Synopsis Science and Global Challenges of the 21st Century - Science and Technology by : Alvaro Rocha

Download or read book Science and Global Challenges of the 21st Century - Science and Technology written by Alvaro Rocha. This book was released on 2021-10-13. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprises the proceedings of the International Perm Forum “Science and Global Challenges of the 21st Century” held on October 18th – 23rd, 2021, at Perm State University, Perm, Russia. Global challenges, which determine the main trends in the development of social and economic life in the XXI century, require the integration of specialists in various fields of knowledge. That is why the main principle of this edition is interdisciplinarity, the formation of end-to-end innovation chains, including fundamental and applied research, and the wide application of smart innovations, networks, and information technologies. The authors seek to find synergy between technologies and such fields as computer science, geosciences, biology, linguistics, social studies, historical studies, and economics. The book is of interest to researchers seeking nontrivial solutions at the interface of sciences, digital humanities, computational linguistics, cognitive studies, machine learning, and others.

Book Synopsis Hypogene Karst Regions and Caves of the World by : Alexander Klimchouk

Download or read book Hypogene Karst Regions and Caves of the World written by Alexander Klimchouk. This book was released on 2017-08-17. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book illustrates the diversity of hypogene speleogenetic processes and void-conduit patterns depending on variations of the geological environments by presenting regional and cave-specific case studies. The cases include both well-known and newly recognized hypogene karst regions and caves of the world. They all focus on geological, hydrogeological, geodynamical and evolutionary contexts of hypogene speleogenesis. The last decade has witnessed the boost in recognition of the possibility, global occurrence, and practical importance of hypogene karstification (speleogenesis), i.e. the development of solutional porosity and permeability by upwelling flow, independent of recharge from the overlying or immediately adjacent surface. Hypogene karst has been identified and documented in many regions where it was previously overlooked or misinterpreted. The book enriches the basis for generalization and categorization of hypogene karst and thus improves our ability to adequately model hypogene karstification and predict related porosity and permeability. It is a book which benefits every researcher, student, and practitioner dealing with karst.

Book Synopsis Dams and Reservoirs in Evaporites by : Petar Milanović

Download or read book Dams and Reservoirs in Evaporites written by Petar Milanović. This book was released on 2019-05-25. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shares essential insights on evaporites and their effects on dams and reservoirs. The intensity of the solution and suffusion process in evaporites (gypsum and salt) is much greater than the solution of carbonates, and evaporites are particularly vulnerable at dam and reservoir sites. Moreover, the presence of evaporites in the vicinity of dams or reservoirs often leads to serious problems: numerous dams in countries around the world (e.g. China, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Peru, Russia, Spain, the Unites States, and Venezuela) have been affected by evaporite dissolution problems. Several of these dams were seriously endangered or ultimately abandoned, even though the best available engineering prevention and remediation practices were applied. Conventional geotechnical methods based on treating the underground (e.g. grout curtains) or surface (e.g. protective blankets) were not successful. This book presents and analyzes revealing case studies in this regard. To improve geotechnical remediation in connection with preventing seepage from reservoirs situated in evaporites, particularly in gypsum, it puts forward a new chemical solution that, after painstaking laboratory testing, was successfully applied in the field.

Book Synopsis Project Planning and Project Success by : Pedro Serrador

Download or read book Project Planning and Project Success written by Pedro Serrador. This book was released on 2014-11-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project planning is generally accepted as an important contributor to project success. However, is there research that affirms the positive impact of project planning and gives guidance on how much effort should be spent on planning? To answer these questions, this book looks at current literature and new research of this under-studied area of project management. The author presents his findings from an extensive review of project planning literature that covers more than 270 sources. He also discusses new research that analyzes data from more than 1,300 global projects. The book confirms that the time spent on planning activities reduces risk and significantly increases the chances of project success. It also concludes that there can be too much planning and shows that the optimum ratio of planning to effort is 25%. The book examines the impact of project planning on different industries. It discusses research in the construction and information technology (IT) industries, and presents a case study of how to plan and track a software development project. The book also looks at the impact of geography on project planning and success. Intended as a basic tool in the library of any project manager or general manager, this book brings to light project planning techniques and information that have never been published previously. It is an important resource on how to plan projects properly and propel your career forward.
