Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here, a study of the decays B0s 2![mu]+[mu]- and B0 2![mu]+[mu]- has been performed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb-1 of 7 and 8 TeV proton-proton collisions collected with the ATLAS detector during the LHC Run 1. For the B0 dimuon decay, an upper limit on the branching fraction is set at B(B0 2![mu]+[mu]- )

Book Synopsis New Physics In B Decays by : Sheldon Stone

Download or read book New Physics In B Decays written by Sheldon Stone. This book was released on 2022-04-07. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics has withstood thus far every attempt by experimentalists to show that it does not describe data. We discuss the SM in some detail, focusing on the mechanism of fermion mixing, which represents one of its most intriguing aspects. We discuss how this mechanism can be tested in b-quark decays, and how b decays can be used to extract information on physics beyond the SM. We review experimental techniques in b physics, focusing on recent results and highlighting future prospects. Particular attention is devoted to recent results from b decays into a hadron, a lepton and an anti-lepton, that show discrepancies with the SM predictions — the so-called B-physics anomalies — whose statistical significance has been increasing steadily. We discuss these experiments in a detailed manner, and also provide theoretical interpretation of these results in terms of physics beyond the SM.

Book Synopsis Searching for New Physics in b → sl+l− Transitions at the LHCb Experiment by : Luca Pescatore

Download or read book Searching for New Physics in b → sl+l− Transitions at the LHCb Experiment written by Luca Pescatore. This book was released on 2017-10-04. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents two analyses of semileptonic b → sl+l− decays using Flavour Changing Neutral Currents (FCNCs) to test for the presence of new physics and lepton flavour universality, and the equality of couplings for different leptons, which on the basis of experimental evidence is assumed to hold in the Standard Model, free from uncertainties as a result of knowledge of the hadronic matrix elements. It also includes the angular analysis of Lambda_b->Lambda mumu decay and the RK* measurement, both of which are first measurements, not yet performed by any other experiment.

Book Synopsis Progress and Visions in Quantum Theory in View of Gravity by : Felix Finster

Download or read book Progress and Visions in Quantum Theory in View of Gravity written by Felix Finster. This book was released on 2020-04-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on a critical discussion of the status and prospects of current approaches in quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, in particular concerning gravity. It contains a carefully selected cross-section of lectures and discussions at the seventh conference “Progress and Visions in Quantum Theory in View of Gravity” which took place in fall 2018 at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig. In contrast to usual proceeding volumes, instead of reporting on the most recent technical results, contributors were asked to discuss visions and new ideas in foundational physics, in particular concerning foundations of quantum field theory. A special focus has been put on the question of which physical principles of quantum (field) theory can be considered fundamental in view of gravity. The book is mainly addressed to mathematicians and physicists who are interested in fundamental questions of mathematical physics. It allows the reader to obtain a broad and up-to-date overview of a fascinating active research area.
