Book Synopsis Structures, Properties, and Dynamics of Metal Clusters from Infrared Laser Spectroscopy by : Richard J. Saykally

Download or read book Structures, Properties, and Dynamics of Metal Clusters from Infrared Laser Spectroscopy written by Richard J. Saykally. This book was released on 1991. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two new types of infrared spectrometers have been developed for the study of gas-phase cluster species. A tunable far-infrared (FIR) laser was combined with an apparatus for producing planar supersonic beams of laser vaporized clusters, and used in the measurement of the 64.1 cm-1 bending vibration of c sub 3. A mid-IR diode laser system was constructed with a similar cluster source, and used in studies of the C sub 4, C sub 5, C sub 7, and C sub 9 clusters. Structures and internal dynamics of the clusters were determined. Extensions to metal cluster systems are currently underway. A new type of spectrometer was developed for measuring electronic spectra of supersonic metal clusters. Cavity Ringdown Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (CRLAS) was utilized in a study of the Cu sub 3 cluster in the initial application of the method.

Book Synopsis Metal Clusters at Surfaces by : Karl-Heinz Meiwes-Broer

Download or read book Metal Clusters at Surfaces written by Karl-Heinz Meiwes-Broer. This book was released on 2012-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the interaction with the contact medium, the properties of clusters may change or even disappear. Thus the physics of cluster-on-surface systems -- the main subject of this book -- is of fundamental importance. The book addresses a wide audience, from the newcomer to the expert. Starting from fundamental concepts of adsorbate-surface interactions, the modification of electronic properties through electron confinement, and concepts of cluster production, it elucidates the distinct properties of the new metallic nanostructures.

Book Synopsis Progress in Experimental and Theoretical Studies of Clusters by : Tamotsu Kondow

Download or read book Progress in Experimental and Theoretical Studies of Clusters written by Tamotsu Kondow. This book was released on 2003. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cluster which is an ensemble of two thousands of atoms or molecules, has emerged as a completely new class of materials at the frontier of materials science. The frontier of cluster science extends so rapidly that the map of the science is renewed day by day. In order to provide basic knowledge and recent information on this growing field, 14 world-renowned scientists who are actively involved experimentally and theoretically in cluster science have written this book, which is concise, comprehensive, suitable for students at both the undergraduate and the graduate level, as well as people who work outside cluster science. Contents: Survey of Structure, Energetics and Dynamics of Clusters (R S Berry & R D Levine); Molecular and Ionic Cluster Spectroscopy (J M Lisy); Physical and Chemical Properties of Metal Clusters in the Gas Phase and on Solid Surfaces (A Terasaki); Femtosecond Spectroscopy on Metal Clusters (a Vajda et al.); Core Level Excitation of Clusters (E Rhl); Laboratory Experiments on Single Levitated Aerosol Particles (T Leisner); Cluster Formation from Liquid Phase (F Mafun(r)). Readership: Researchers in atomic physics, molecular physics and physical chemistry."

Book Synopsis Structure and Properties of Atomic Nanoclusters by : Julio A. Alonso

Download or read book Structure and Properties of Atomic Nanoclusters written by Julio A. Alonso. This book was released on 2012. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atomic clusters are aggregates of atoms containing a few to several thousand atoms. Due to the small size of these pieces of matter, the properties of atomic clusters in general are different from those of the corresponding material in the macroscopic bulk phase. This monograph presents the main developments of atomic clusters and the current status of the field. The book treats different types of clusters with very different properties: clusters in which the atoms or molecules are tied by weak van der Waals interactions, metallic clusters, clusters of ionic materials, and network clusters made of typical covalent elements. It includes methods of experimental cluster synthesis as well as the structural, electronic, thermodynamic and magnetic properties of clusters, covering both experiments and the theoretical work that has led to our present understanding of the different properties of clusters. The question of assembling nanoclusters to form solids with new properties is also considered. Having an adequate knowledge of the properties of clusters can be of great help to any scientist working with objects of nanometric size. On the other hand, nanoclusters are themselves potentially important in fields like catalysis and nanomedicine.
