Book excerpt: Standard Guidelines for Artificial Recharge of Ground Water describes the steps necessary to plan, design, construct, maintain, operate, and close a project for artificial recharge of groundwater. The recharge may be accomplished either by applying water to the ground surface for infiltration or by placing it directly into aquifers through wells. This Standard also describes the economic, environmental, and legal considerations, including water rights, laws, and regulations, as well as field investigation and testing procedures that may be applicable. The guidelines cover situations that may occur in many different types of projects and can be applied to basic or small projects by selecting the portions of these guidelines that are appropriate to the proposed project.

Book Synopsis Ground Water Recharge Using Waters of Impaired Quality by : National Research Council

Download or read book Ground Water Recharge Using Waters of Impaired Quality written by National Research Council. This book was released on 1994-02-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As demand for water increases, water managers and planners will need to look widely for ways to improve water management and augment water supplies. This book concludes that artificial recharge can be one option in an integrated strategy to optimize total water resource management and that in some cases impaired-quality water can be used effectively as a source for artificial recharge of ground water aquifers. Source water quality characteristics, pretreatment and recharge technologies, transformations during transport through the soil and aquifer, public health issues, economic feasibility, and legal and institutional considerations are addressed. The book evaluates three main types of impaired quality water sourcesâ€"treated municipal wastewater, stormwater runoff, and irrigation return flowâ€"and describes which is the most consistent in terms of quality and quantity. Also included are descriptions of seven recharge projects.

Book Synopsis Artificial Recharge of Ground Water II by : Arnold Ivan Johnson

Download or read book Artificial Recharge of Ground Water II written by Arnold Ivan Johnson. This book was released on 1995. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This interdisciplinary compilation of papers features recent developments of various types of artificial recharge, as well as both successful and unsuccessful case histories of projects from twenty-three countries and numerous states. Contributing engineers and scientists exchange their experiences and findings to promote the transfer of information between developed and underdeveloped countries and to provide an educational resource for communication with those who are not water scientists, such as planners, lawyers, regulators, and the public in general. Directions by which cities or other governments can save funds by having reasonable technical guidelines for implementation of a recharge project are suggested. Surface- and well-type recharge; aquifer storage and recovery; wastewater and storm water recharge; salt water intrusion control; water quality impacts; well clogging and recharge to hard rock aquifers are addressed."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Synopsis Groundwater Recharge and Wells by : R. David G. Pyne

Download or read book Groundwater Recharge and Wells written by R. David G. Pyne. This book was released on 2017-11-13. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the issues that have been encountered at other sites, and the steps that have led to successful resolution of these issues, can provide great help to those considering, planning, or implementing new groundwater recharge projects. Recent technical advances and operational experience have demonstrated that well recharge is a feasible and cost effective method of artificially recharging natural aquifers. This practical guide reviews the technical constraints and issues that have been addressed and resolved through research and experience at many sites. The book presents aquifer storage recovery (ASR) technology and traces its evolution over the past 25 years in the United States. Procedures for groundwater recharge are presented, and selected case studies are examined. Drinking water quality standards and conversion factors are provided in the appendix for easy reference.
