Book Synopsis Spatial-Temporal Analysis and Modeling of Urban Growth by : Charles Mundia

Download or read book Spatial-Temporal Analysis and Modeling of Urban Growth written by Charles Mundia. This book was released on 2010-12. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geo spatial data and information are increasingly being used by different professionals to analyze and model different phenomena. This book looks at spatial analysis and modeling of urban growth using Cellular Automata, Remote Sensing, and Geographical Information System, with a particular emphasis on cities experiencing rapid spatial expansions. The book takes a critical look at the dynamics of spatial-temporal patterns of land use/land cover, and discusses urban growth issues and the need for urban management tools that can provide different perspective scenarios. Urban growth geosimulation that integrates social-economic and biophysical factors with dynamic spatial modeling is described. This is necessary for monitoring urban development processes, planning for urban service provision and managing urban planning information. This book illustrates through case studies, how spatial analysis and modeling built around GIS, can be used to identify ways in which cities may be better planned and managed. The book will be valuable reading for researchers, regional analysts, planners, policy makers, business analysts and geodemographers among many other professionals.

Book Synopsis Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Urbanization Using GIS and Remote Sensing in Developing Countries by : Yuji Murayama

Download or read book Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Urbanization Using GIS and Remote Sensing in Developing Countries written by Yuji Murayama. This book was released on 2021-12-27. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last two decades, many researchers have focused on developing countries' urbanization patterns and processes. In this context, the scarcity of spatial data has been an obstacle to studying urbanization quantitatively, especially in Asian and African cities. The use of remote sensing data and geographical information systems (GIS) techniques can overcome the above limitations. Data on land use and land cover, land surface temperature, population density, and energy consumption can be extracted based on remote sensing at various spatial and temporal resolutions. GIS techniques can be used to analyze urbanization patterns and predict future patterns. Thus, the link between urbanization and sustainable urban development has increasingly become a principal issue in designing and developing sustainable cities at the local, regional, and global levels. This volume shows the spatiotemporal analysis of urbanization using GIS and remote sensing in developing countries, with a special emphasis on future urban sustainability in Asia and Africa. Capturing the spatial-temporal variation of urbanization patterns will help introduce proper sustainable urban planning in developing countries, especially for Asian and African cities.

Book Synopsis Spatial Modeling and Assessment of Urban Form by : Biswajeet Pradhan

Download or read book Spatial Modeling and Assessment of Urban Form written by Biswajeet Pradhan. This book was released on 2017-05-08. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the application of Geospatial data, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) technologies in analysis and modeling of urban growth process, and its pattern, with special focus on sprawl and compact form of urban development. The book explains these two kinds of urban forms (sprawl and compact urban development) in detail regarding their advantages, disadvantages, indicators, assessment, modeling, implementation and their relationship with urban sustainability. It confirms that the proposed modeling approaches, geospatial data and GIS are very practical for identifying urban growth, land use change patterns and their general trends in future. The analyses and modeling approaches presented in this book can be employed to guide the identification and measurements of the changes and growth likely to happen in urban areas. In addition, this book can be helpful for town planning and development in order to design urban areas in a compact form and eventually sustainable manner.
