Book Synopsis Just My Type by : Simon Garfield

Download or read book Just My Type written by Simon Garfield. This book was released on 2010-10-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just My Type is not just a font book, but a book of stories. About how Helvetica and Comic Sans took over the world. About why Barack Obama opted for Gotham, while Amy Winehouse found her soul in 30s Art Deco. About the great originators of type, from Baskerville to Zapf, or people like Neville Brody who threw out the rulebook, or Margaret Calvert, who invented the motorway signs that are used from Watford Gap to Abu Dhabi. About the pivotal moment when fonts left the world of Letraset and were loaded onto computers ... and typefaces became something we realised we all have an opinion about. As the Sunday Times review put it, the book is 'a kind of Eats, Shoots and Leaves for letters, revealing the extent to which fonts are not only shaped by but also define the world in which we live.' This edition is available with both black and silver covers.

Book Synopsis He's Just Not Your Type (And That's A Good Thing) by : Andrea Syrtash

Download or read book He's Just Not Your Type (And That's A Good Thing) written by Andrea Syrtash. This book was released on 2010-04-27. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In He's Just Not Your Type (And That's a Good Thing), a relationship expert and dating columnist shares her counterintuitive approach to lasting love: encouraging women to date their "non-types." After years of dating, many women fall into a relationship rut. As serial daters, they are attracted to the same type of man time and again. Clearly, something's not working. But the problem is not that he's just not that into them—the reality is, he's just not their type. Relationship expert and life coach Andrea Syrtash hears the disbelief in her clients' voices when they admit that their "Mr. Right" relationship has again gone wrong. In He's Just Not Your Type, Syrtash challenges readers to date outside their comfort zones and poses hard-hitting questions: What if the kind of man they think will make them happy never will? What would happen if they dated someone they'd never considered dating? In each chapter, Syrtash shares stories of women who have found lasting happiness with their non-types (NTs) and provides exercises designed to help readers assess their big-picture goals and core values. In doing so, she shows women how to make better choices in dating so they are more likely to find true love.

Download or read book Sorry, You're Just Not My Type written by Stephanie Tom Tong. This book was released on 2008. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Although online dating has increased in popularity, little is known about how online daters respond to date requests, or how they handle the delivery of romantic rejection. This research was designed to identify the types of linguistic strategies employed in romantic date rejection. One hundred and ninety respondents were asked to compose a message rejecting a romantic date request initiated by a member of the opposite sex. Results showed that use of politeness strategies varied as a function of the relationship between the requester and rejector (acquaintance vs. stranger) and the type of media used (email vs. online dating messaging service). Additionally, it was found that online daters take advantage of certain features provided by dating website messaging services which allow new ways for rejectors to deliver refusals that were not previously available in FtF [i.e. face to face] communication or prior types of CMC"--Abstract.

Book Synopsis Type & Layout by : Colin Wheildon

Download or read book Type & Layout written by Colin Wheildon. This book was released on 1995. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proliferation of desktop publishing has reawakened interest in the presentational aspects of printed communication; that is, in what writing looks like. When picking a fonts package, the image-conscious self-expresser would do well to consult Wheildon on the ins and outs of typography and graphic design; indeed, for those in advertising, his book will serve as a layout primer. In measured, detailed language, and drawing on nine years of research, Wheildon discusses page layout, typefaces, reader behavior, and more. Further, given subject matter that lends itself to insightful illustration, he accompanies the text with graphics that enhance and underscore his points at every turn. His writing seems a bit technical, even dry, at first, but detailed and crisp exposition combine with apt illustration to impart as much depth about the technical aspects of presenting printed communication as many readers may want.
