Book Synopsis An Appeal to the Methodist Episcopal Church by : Orange Scott
Download or read book An Appeal to the Methodist Episcopal Church written by Orange Scott. This book was released on 1838. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its foundation in the United States until the year 1800, Methodism had testified against slavery as a moral evil. As slavery disputes intensified in the 19th century, there emerged two doctrines within the Methodist Church. Churches in the South were primarily proslavery, while northern churches started antislavery movements. The antislavery movement in northern churches strengthened and solidified in response to the pro-slavery apologia of Southern churches.
