Book Synopsis Second Simplicity by : Bruno Barnhart

Download or read book Second Simplicity written by Bruno Barnhart. This book was released on 1999. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Bruno Barnhart's new book uncovers the contours of a Christian wisdom and explores the ways that a Christian faith often bound by rule, structure, and order can open itself to the unitive vision at its root." "This book proposes an opening of consciousness beyond thought, of theological vision beyond rational knowledge, and of Christianity beyond the perimeter of church. Bruno Barnhart invites us to move into a fuller experience of Christianity, an experience of wisdom that brings all created reality into unity with God. Therein lies the "second simplicity.""--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Book Synopsis Sophistication & Simplicity by : Steven Weyhrich

Download or read book Sophistication & Simplicity written by Steven Weyhrich. This book was released on 2013. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite humble beginnings, today Apple, Inc. enjoys unprecedented popularity and prosperity with its products, routinely selling over a million devices in a single day. It is a major innovator in the computing and consumer landscape, and as shown in this retrospective, the history of the Apple II computer plays a large part in the current successes of the company. The late 1970s saw the dawn of the Apple II, the company's first hit product. It provided the breathing room for Apple to become self-sustaining and ultimately blossom into one of the greatest business and technology successes in history. This account provides a unique view of early personal computing and Apple as a company, focusing almost exclusively on the role of the Apple II within that story. It extends outward to the products, publications, and early online services that made up the ecosystem for the platform during its active years, and follows the story to present-day enthusiasts who still find new things to do with a computer that got its start more than 35 years ago.

Book Synopsis Simplicity by : Craig Dilworth

Download or read book Simplicity written by Craig Dilworth. This book was released on 2013. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simplicity presents a new, wide-ranging philosophical theory, one that concerns how reality is conceived. In so doing it also provides a new logic with which to approach conceptual situations. In this book, Craig Dilworth replaces the dualistic, true/false approach of formal logic with a three-part basis for thought. This basis consists of the categories of simplicity, complexity, and nothingness. The category of simplicity is paradoxical, while that of complexity is unproblematic, and that of nothingness is self-contradictory. When applied to ontological categories, such as those of substance, self, or causality, these categories of reason can resolve, rather than solve, intellectual issues. The notion of perspective is integral to the simplicity way of thinking. A particular entity--such as the self--may be conceived as simple in one perspective, while being complex or nothing in another. Combined with the categories of the simplicity theory, Dilworth uses the notion of perspective to reveal a type of conceptual conflict that differs from contradiction. So, for example, simplicity better represents the relation between competing scientific theories--such as the wave and particle theories of radiation--as a form of perspectival incompatibility. The book distinguishes between two forms of simplicity: analytic and synthetic, which can respectively be conceived of as a point and a whole. Again, the notion of perspective is employed: what is analytically simple in one perspective may well be synthetically simple in another. In this book, the simplicity way of thinking is applied to intellectual issues in philosophy, set theory, and physics. These applications show how simplicity can provide real insight into a wide variety of conceptually complex situations.
