Book excerpt: The capture and translocation of wild turkeys is widely used in the restoration of this important game bird to former ranges. However, little research has been conducted on the initial adaptation of wild turkeys to new areas, and on the factors which may influence the initial success or failure of such transplants. The major goals of this study were to investigate the initial adaptation of eastern wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo sylvestris) released in the Mill Creek Wildlife Management Area, to record dispersal and trends in daily movement, to establish rates and sources of mortality, to identify habitat utilization, and to note first year reproduction.
