And when a stranger with mesmerizing green eyes and hair turned silver from sorrow touched Mercy's tender heart, she felt herself drawn irresistibly to the man they called... THE SILVER FOX Federal Agent Reynard Parks lived only to avenge his wife by bringing to justice the criminals who killed her. That is, until he met Mercy de Dreux. Download or read book Catharsis written by Luis Reinaldo Perez Rosario. This book was released on 2016-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grief can do terrible things to us. It can hold us still in time and skew our perspective. That is the case with William Maldonado, who grieves the loss of his father as a child to war; the loss of his mother as a young adult to an illness; the loss of an opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree, and the loss of his professional reputation to an accusation of committing insurance fraud. Subterranean sorrow leads Maldonado to make wrong-minded decisions that eventually lead him to prison and then to a half-way-house. One day, as he tries to understand his grief, he blames the world, and, in particular, a former business partner. Full of rage, he returns to the city where he experienced his deepest wounds. Upon his return, he discovers that his former business partner, now a Pentecostal minister, emerged unscathed from the insurance fraud scandal that sent him fleeing for a decade. That discovery thrusts Maldonado on a path of revenge and into the roiling world of church politics, where he joins a secession group that wants to fire his former partner. It takes the whims of fate and new friendships for Maldonado to experience clarity of purpose.

Book excerpt: Frederick Webb Hodge remarked that the Eastern Apache tribe called the Mescaleros were “never regarded as so warlike” as the Apaches of Arizona. But the Mescaleros’ history is one of hardship and oppression alternating with wars of revenge. They were friendly to the Spaniards until victimized, and friendly to Americans until they were betrayed again. For three hundred years Mescaleros fought the Spaniards and Mexicans. They fought Americans for forty more, before subsiding into lethargy and discouragement. Only since 1930 have the Mescaleros been able to make tribal progress. C. L. Sonnichsen tells the story of the Mescalero Apaches from the earliest records to the modern day, from the Indian's point of view. In early days the Mescaleros moved about freely. Their principal range was between the Río Grande and the Pecos in New Mexico, but they hunted into the Staked Plains and southward into Mexico. They owned nothing and everything. Today the Mescaleros are American citizens and own their reservation in the Tularosa country of New Mexico. While the Mescalero Apaches still struggle to retain their traditions and bridge the gap between their old life and the new, their people have made amazing progress.

Book Synopsis For More Than Glory by : William C. Dietz

Download or read book For More Than Glory written by William C. Dietz. This book was released on 2017-09-18. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times–bestselling author’s military sci-fi saga continues as the fate a remote planet decides the future of the Confederacy. Second Lt. Antonio Santana was considered a hero—until he refused an order to fire on unarmed civilians. Now stripped of his rank, he’s been posted to the isolated planet of LaNor. Since its discovery, LaNor has attracted attention from all corners of the still-precarious Confederacy of Sentient Beings—all with an eye to exploiting its location and natural resources. As for the native LaNorians, little concern is paid to them except as a steady supply of cheap labor. But now, led by their empress, the LaNorians are ready to launch a rebellion. Taken by surprise and suddenly surrounded, the competing interests must band together for survival. It is an unlikely alliance held together by Santana’s courage and the diplomatic prowess of his sometime lover Christine Vanderveen. Even as the Legion and its newfound allies struggle to fend off the LaNorians, Santana begins to suspect that they all may be pawns in a much greater and deadlier campaign. Someone else is behind the uprising. And their true objective is to spread the chaos of war far beyond LaNor . . . “[An] elaborate military-political thriller . . . Dietz has created an intricate tapestry of local and star-faring culture with topnotch action sequences.” —Publishers Weekly
