Book Synopsis Sample Handling and Trace Analysis of Pollutants by : Damia Barcelo

Download or read book Sample Handling and Trace Analysis of Pollutants written by Damia Barcelo. This book was released on 2000-03-08. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an updated, completely revised version of a previous volume in this series entitled: ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS -- Techniques, applications and quality assurance. The book treats different aspects of environmental analysis such as sample handling and analytical techniques, the applications to trace analysis of pollutants (mainly organic compounds), and quality assurance aspects, including the use of certified reference materials for the quality control of the whole analytical process. New analytical techniques are presented that have been developed significantly over the last 6 years, like solid phase microextraction, microwave-assisted extraction, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometric methods, immunoassays, and biosensors. The book is divided into four sections. The first describes field sampling techniques and sample preparation in environmental matrices: water, soil, sediment and biota. The second section covers the application areas which are either based on techniques, like the use of gas chromatography-atomic emission detection, immunoassays, or coupled-column liquid chromatography, or on specific application areas, like chlorinated compounds, pesticides, phenols, mycotoxins, phytotoxins, radionuclides, industrial effluents and wastes, including mine waste. Validation and quality assurance are described in the third section, together with the interpretation of environmental data using advanced chemometric techniques. The final section reports the use of somewhat advanced analytical methods, usually more expensive, less routinely used or less developed, for the determination of pollutants.

Book Synopsis Sample Handling and Trace Analysis of Pollutants by : Damia Barcelo

Download or read book Sample Handling and Trace Analysis of Pollutants written by Damia Barcelo. This book was released on 2023-10-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sample Handling and Trace Analysis of Pollutants: Innovations to Determine Organic Contaminants, Second Edition reviews the latest technologies and challenges in trace analysis of environmental pollutants, from selecting the right approach to tips for performing analytic procedures and measuring and reporting results. Written by internationally renowned experts in environmental analysis from 5 continents and edited by leaders in the field, this completely updated and revised volume presents the latest techniques developed over the past 10 years, such as high-resolution mass spectrometry, biosensors and imaging techniques. Important tools for problem-solving in the determination of environmental pollutants are also discussed. Chapters cover emerging pollutants in the environment, such as nanomaterials, microplastics, metabolites and/or transformation products and antimicrobial resistances. Specific sections describe field sampling techniques and sample preparation in environmental matrices: air, water, soil, sediment and biota, focus on passive samplers, cover the determination of these environmental contaminants based on analytical techniques, such as the use of gas chromatography and liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, immunoassays, and biosensors as well as advanced analytical methods such as imaging techniques. Includes discussions on techniques such as chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry and emerging areas in nanotechnology, immunoassays and biosensors Covers the characteristics, advantages, limitations and potential of each technique, along with current strategies in each method's development and validation Outlines practical solutions to challenging problems in the analysis of pollutants in environmental matrices, including how to combine techniques for improved efficacy
